A Brief Summary of This Position: Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Shipping/Receiving and Quality trainer position in the Petersburg, Virginia Coatings site. We are looking for a highly driven individual that can help train incoming personnel to the production and shipping teams on the duties of their positions. The individual assigned to this position will first POC for the shipping and receiving coordinator on matters associated with their position, training new employees in the finishing (QC) to the Valmont standard for finishing steel, as well as act as a conduit of information to the General Manager on the development of the team members. Training team on Essential Functions: Answer phone calls, greet visitors, and direct appropriately Respond to customer questions, concerns, and request Check in material and check out customer orders Read tags, bill of ladings, and shipping and receiving papers Create tags on incoming product with details including piece count and finished product packaging Work daily with production to meet customer commitment request Help to expedite orders through shops to achieve on-time delivery of customers Provide updates in regards to planned shipping & delivery dates Seek daily communication from upstream departments to ensure product is correctly prioritized Operate small hand tools including tape measure, sanders and drills Audit all material quality before shipping Ensure proper flow of paperwork for certifications and inspections Notify customers when material is complete and ready for pickup Coordinate 3rd party freight and arranges special packaging or shipping requirements as requested by customers Teach new and temp employees on how to properly dress material Training finishing end crew leader on how to organize their production space to drive efficiency Ability to use hand tools on a limited basis (grinders, files, etc.) Other Important Details about the Role: Operate computer to enter product information The ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions Demonstrate the Valmont core values: Passion, Integrity, Continuous Improvement and Deliver Results. Responsible for their own safety, and required to report any unsafe acts or conditions to the appropriate personnel Responsible for the quality and integrity of their work, including reporting & data accuracy Generate, print, and file various documents and reports Support other administrative tasks Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): High School Diploma or GED equivalent Excellent communication and customer service skills A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook, plus the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software Must have a pleasant and friendly “can do” attitude Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Ability to be exposed to outdoors elements for moderate durations of time Ability to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when inside the production facility Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results Experience in a similar role of 1 year Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications: 3 plus months experience in a manufacturing, processing or construction environment Working Environment and Physical Efforts: Work is typically performed outside and on the shop floor. The incumbent is regularly required to walk and carry out duties on the shop floor and in the yard. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. While visiting the manufacturing areas of the plant, use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is required at all times. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The Shipping/Receiving Coordinator works outside 90% of the time. Incumbent is operating equipment that emits fumes and vibrates. Incumbent is continually exposed to all types of weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, wet, dusty, and windy. Constant visual effort must be expended while operating equipment in the congested areas around the galvanizing environment. Must be mentally aware of how and where to place material on trucks being loaded and stage material for processing. Must be aware and practicing all safety considerations while operating equipment in and around the galvanizing area. Employee must be aware that all custom material is to be identified and tagged. Use of small hand tools including, saws, drills, riveters, and nail guns requires employee to be alert at all times.
