    Until Filled VACANCY: The Valley View Public School District is seeking an individual to fill a full-time Elementary Dual Language teaching position for the 2024-2025 school year. (1) Dual Language (One-Way) Primary (Grades K-3) and (1) Dual Language (One-Way) Intermediate (Grades 4-5).
    JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the building administrator and multilingual department, the Dual Language teacher implements a wide range of instructional components that coincide with Valley View 365 U’s Dual Language Program. Teacher will Implement a Dual Language Model for students to acquire and maintain high levels of academic achievement and become bilingual, biliterate, and multicultural life-long learners.
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    • Schedule, plan and instruct students using district curriculum aligned to content and language acquisition standards in the areas the instructor is certified in and hired to teach.
    • Develop and implement lesson plans that align to common core and WIDA standards in all subject areas including but not limited to English Language Development (ELD) and Spanish Language Arts (SLA).
    • Deliver instruction to the whole classroom, small groups and/or individual students to ensure effective acquisition of English and Spanish skills in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
    • Establish a healthy and safe atmosphere conducive to a positive learning environment.
    • Modify, adapt, and implement lessons and curriculum to meet individual student’s linguistic development stages and needs.
    • Deliver lessons and conduct class using developmentally appropriate instructional and social language that is in alignment with the level of English and Spanish language development and linguistic background of each student.
    • Creates and maintains a classroom environment that is respectful of students’ cultural and linguistic diversity, that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the developmental levels and interests of the students.
    • Conduct screenings to determine student eligibility for EL/DL Education services and programs. Administer standardized assessments, in coordination with the central office, to measure the proficiency and/or progress in the acquisition of English and/or Spanish language skills for developing bilingual students. Review and interpret scores.
    • Review student academic and English language acquisition progress via assessments, maintain records of student work, and develop intervention strategies to ensure student success and growth. Maintain accurate and current records required by state and federal requirements.
    • Attend and actively participate in building and district teams to facilitate early involvement and resolution of academic or behavior problems using data collection and analysis meetings to discuss academic progress and program placement.
    • Set and communicate clear expectations for classroom behavior and school environment by applying positive reinforcement and/or behavior modification techniques as needed.
    • Communicate verbally and in writing regularly with parents and students on progress.
    • Meet regularly and work collaboratively with other teachers to plan, accommodate, implement, and assess differentiated lessons and student progress.
    • Consult and provide advice to staff on issues relating to EL curriculum and/or instructional methods.
    • Collaborate with other staff in planning, modifying, enhancing and implementing curriculum, school and District goals, and objectives.
    • Enforce and support District and School policies, philosophies, and objectives with students and parents.
    • Participate in staff development and school improvement activities in order to maintain professional growth. Plan and implement best practices and strategies.
    • Participate in events outside of the regularly scheduled workday.
    QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION
    • Illinois teaching certificate type 03 for positions in K-5 or type 09 for positions in grades 9-12 (certificate type 03 or 09 plus middle school endorsement for positions in 6-8), plus Endorsement/approval in ESL & Bilingual Spanish/English Education
    • For positions in grades 6 to 12 only, endorsement/approval or enough college credit hours in the specific content area(s) the position is intended for (Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and/or Social Studies), so NCLB HQ status is met. Transitional Bilingual (English/Spanish) Education Certificate Type 29
    EXPERIENCE
    • A minimum of two years as a bilingual English/Spanish instructor of K-5 EL students is preferred, but not required.
    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly using academic and social English and Spanish both orally and written.
    WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Work is performed in an environment where unusual temperature, noise and hazards are relatively nonexistent. Work requires very infrequent lifting, pulling, or pushing during the normal performance of tasks and responsibilities.
    WORKING CONDITIONS: Salary is in accordance with the teacher salary schedule. The District offers excellent fringe benefits, including life, health and dental insurance.
