Job Summary and Qualifications

The program coordinator creates, develops and implements specialized clinical practice in the specific area of maternal care. Serves as a clinical resource person in the Perinatal Units, and serves as a liaison throughout the facility and in the community regarding services provided for this unique patient population. Build collaborative relationships with organization department and designated Obstetric clinics.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Labor and Delivery clinical experience as a registered nurse
  • Has the authority and responsibility to monitor the provision of maternal patient care services from admission, stabilization, and through discharge
  • Assist with the Maternal Quality Assurance and Process Improvement (QAPI) initiatives
  • Collaborates with Maternal Medical Director in areas to include, but not limited to: developing and/or revising policies, procedure and guidelines, and the QAPI program
  • Collaborate with Perinatal Nurse Educator in assuring staff competency, education and training for the perinatal patient population served
  • Supports the Maternal QAPI Multidisciplinary Meetings and monthly statistics and quality improvements
  • Ensures ongoing family-centered care practices
  • Continuously reviews and evaluates patient progress as outlined within the plan of care. Communicates plan of care to patient and family and solicits concerns, questions, and issues for resolution
  • Provides emotional support, counseling, clinical education and expert guidance to patients and families to promote their ability to understand and meaningfully participate in the healthcare process and personal decision-making
  • Serves as a liaison between patient and clinical staff, administration, physicians, and community/external resources to coordinate/maximize resources and identify/resolve barriers to the plan of care
  • Assists patients and families with resolving financial, psychosocial, functional, and administrative issues by advising of options and referring to appropriate resources. Intervenes as appropriate to advocate for patient and family
  • May collect and assess data to identify quality trends or actual sources of risks to patients and employees. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team and committees with respect to quality outcomes.


Minimum Position Requirements:

License and Certifications:

  • TX RN License RN Compact State License
  • BLS (AHA) certification
  • NRP (AAP) certification
  • Intermediate Fetal Monitoring (AWHONN)
  • Specialty Certification relevant to role such as RNC-OB or C-EFM preferred

Education

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • BSN preferred

Experience

  • Required - Minimum of 5 years clinical experience working in Labor and Delivery**
