Valley Montessori School is seeking a Middle School Science Teacher for the 2024-25 School Year. The teacher is responsible for creating an environment that is conducive to the growth and development of adolescents (grades 7-8) in the Science curriculum and as individuals. They must enjoy working with adolescents as well as have a deep understanding and respect for the child at this stage of development. The ideal candidate will provide a learning environment grounded in Montessori philosophy with an integrated, interdisciplinary curriculum, developed in collaboration with teaching team members. We are looking for someone to join our team who has patience, a good sense of humor, the ability to communicate effectively and set clear boundaries.

Key Responsibilities:

• Establish and maintain an enriching and academically challenging environment based on Montessori principles
• Model respect for diversity and foster a respect for differences among students.
• Maintain an environment where individual responsibility, leadership and respect are valued and expected.
• Maintain detailed and accurate records of each student’s academic progress.
• Plan and supervise outings, including overnight trips, based on student interest, curriculum, budgetary constraints, and safety.
• Work collaboratively with other teachers and administrators in development of curriculum, program planning and scheduling.
• Establish and maintain positive communication with parents, respond to emails and phone calls in a timely manner, conduct parent-teacher conferences twice annually.
• Support middle school micro-economy projects and fundraising efforts.
• Attend staff meetings, school events and in-service programs.

Ideal candidates will have:

• A passion for Montessori philosophy
• Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field
• Montessori Secondary training or Certificate from a MACTE approved program (AMS, AMI, NCME, etc.). Will consider well qualified candidates for this position who are open to obtaining the Secondary credential.
