The Financial Analyst plays a crucial role in analyzing monthly financial performance, assists with budgeting and forecasting processes, and performs ad hoc analyses. The role also serves as a decision support point to the Operations team, creating an important connection between real life production/logistics challenges and their impact to the P&L.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A):
- Analyze financial data and performance metrics to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
- Perform detailed analysis of monthly Profit and Loss (P&L) statements, focusing on all P&L items below net sales. Provide insightful drivers and a concise business story to explain variances and performance trends.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and presentations for management review.
- Develop and maintain financial models to track and forecast revenue, manufacturing costs, and cash flow.
Cost Analysis and Optimization:
- Conduct cost analysis of manufacturing processes, ingredients, and labor to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategies to optimize costs without compromising product quality or safety.
- Provide decision support to the Operations team by working closely with management to distill insights across operational drivers. Areas of focus include cost analysis, labor efficiency, waste monitoring and mitigation, freight and storage expenses, and Work-in-Process (WIP) variances.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the annual budget and interim forecast processes, collaborating with cross-functional teams to align on assumptions and data inputs. Reconcile departmental expenses and contribute to the development of financial statements.
- Monitor budget performance and provide regular updates and analysis to management, highlighting areas of concern and recommending corrective actions as needed.
Capital Investment Analysis:
- Evaluate proposed capital investments in manufacturing equipment, facilities, and technology, assessing their financial feasibility and return on investment.
- Prepare business cases and financial justification for capital expenditure projects, presenting recommendations to senior management for approval.
Financial Reporting and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards related to food manufacturing operations.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, audit schedules, and other documentation for internal and external audits.
- Conduct ad hoc financial analyses to identify trends and provide recommendations to inform decision-making processes across the organization.
- Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), highlighting trends and researching unexpected variances to provide insights into business performance.
Core Competencies, Knowledge and Skill Requirements
Candidates should be self-starters with a strong work ethic and the ability to prioritize their workload to ensure timely issue resolution. In addition, this individual should possess the following skills:
· Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central ERP proficiency strongly preferred

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- 2 years of experience in financial analysis, preferably in the food manufacturing industry.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, BI, ERP systems).
- Knowledge of food manufacturing processes, supply chain management, and cost accounting principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
