Position Description:
The Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) reports directly to the President as the Chief Student Affairs Officer of the University. The VPSA serves as a member of the President’s Executive Leadership team, responsible for the successful implementation of VCSU’s strategic plan and serves in a leadership role as the University representative on the North Dakota University System Student Affairs Council. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations in the Department for Student Affairs which includes the following areas: bookstore, career services, counseling, crisis management, dining services, diversity services, financial aid, health services, international student services, judicial affairs, new student orientation, first year experience, parent services, residential life, retention services, student center, student activities, and Student Government Association. The VPSA is also responsible for federal compliance with Title IX, fire safety, crime statistics, and campus safety. The VPSA establishes and implements operating procedures to facilitate recruitment, matriculation, retention, graduation of students and implements activities which complement and enhance the academic programming of the University. This position enriches the experience and the development of students, including co-curricular activity creation, student conduct adjudication, and residential life programming. The VPSA provides strategic vision for the assessment and quality improvement initiatives for the Department.
The VPSA oversees the Department for Student Affairs’ budget of $4.4 million and all its administrative units and supervises 15 professional and support staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completed master’s degree from an accredited University and minimum of 5 years in the following: relevant and progressive senior level administrative experience and leadership in student affairs.
  • Demonstrated success and increased levels of responsibility and accountability.
  • Knowledge in the following areas: Student Affairs national trends, best practice, student development theory, retention and persistence, and evidence of a commitment to the profession through professional engagement is essential.

  • A doctoral degree
  • Proven experience in advancing the University’s educational mission by providing leadership for services, co-curricular programs, and activities that enhance the quality of campus life and promote student engagement, development, and personalized learning.
  • Visionary, creative, and collaborative approach and will understand the needs of a comprehensive university with both residential and distance college students.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across campus, as well as in the community, with key partners, including but not limited to faculty, staff, senior administrators, students, area business leaders, and public constituents.
  • Experience managing a full-time professional staff with steadily increasing levels of responsibility. Strong history in developing relationships and building teams.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership in planning, implementing, evaluating, and advocating for a wide-range of student-oriented programs with a student-centered approach.
  • Strong experience in budget development and responsible fiscal management with specific experience with auxiliary services.
  • Knowledge of and appreciation for the challenges of the various departments within the Department for Student Affairs.
  • Experience developing strategic initiatives to provide personal and academic support to students, student groups, and student organizations.
  • Experience in leading successful change efforts including continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Compensation:
$120,000 - $125,000 annually and is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
