Qualifications

1. 3 - 5 Years Experience

2. Master’s Degree in Counseling (Preferred)

Comprehensive School Counseling Program Plan:

1. In collaboration with district principals, develop a plan for a comprehensive school counseling program that is in alignment with Ohio and ASCA standards and Valley Christian School’s mission and core values.

a. Identify and recommend the resources needed for the success of the program.

b. Clearly identify program priorities, student improvement goals, proactive and preventative strategies, and a data-informed quarterly cycle of evaluation.

c. Develop core curriculum based on students’ academic, career, and social/emotional development.

d. Respond and serve at-risk students in response to needs as well as in times of crisis.

e. Create an individualized planning system tailored to students’ individual educational, career, social/emotional development, and future aspirations.

f. Promote connections, collaboration, and communicate goals to teachers, staff, parents/guardians, and community partners.

g. Utilize technology to deliver services and meet student needs as needed.

Direct Services for Academic, Career and Social/Emotional Development

1. Develop curriculum, offer individual student planning, and deliver responsive services in order to assist students in developing and applying knowledge skills and mindsets for spiritual, academic, career, and social/emotional development.

a. Demonstrate knowledge of developmental characteristics and

environmental factors that influence students’ development.

b. Plan and deliver effective activities and experiences designed to enhance student learning and achievement and counsel students, in collaboration with parents/guardians, to set academic goals.

c. Provide developmentally appropriate counseling designed to build students’ awareness of their unique plan for their life by developing the skills for and navigation through varied college and career opportunities.

d. Observe and assess students’ social/emotional development and skills.

e. Plan and deliver effective activities and experiences to support their social/

wellness and help students develop the skills and self-awareness needed

for success.

f. Monitor student progress related to academic, career, and

social/emotional development

g. Recommend interventions for students as needed, including academic and

behavior interventions and supports.

h. Develop a crisis response team and train members to quickly and systematically respond to trauma or crisis.

Indirect Services: Partnerships and Referrals

1. Collaborate and consult with school personnel, parents/guardians, and community agencies to coordinate support for all students.

a. Partner with parents/guardians in students’ academic, career, and social/emotional development.

b. Provide clear, relevant, and appropriate information for students and their parents/guardians.

c. Facilitate communication between students, parent/guardians and school personnel, and encourage school personnel involved in working with families to support students.

d. Demonstrate skills in teamwork, communication, and problem-solving when providing indirect services on behalf of students.

e. Demonstrate knowledge of available community resources.

f. Coordinate with community partners to make connections and integrate community resources towards the program goals of academic, career and social/emotional development.

g. Connect and refer students, parents/guardians, school personnel, and others to appropriate mentors, professionals, agencies, and services in the school and in the community.

Evaluation and Data:

1. Collaboratively engage in a cycle of continuous improvement using data to identify needs, plan and implement programs, evaluate the impact, and adjust accordingly.

a. Interpret and communicate assessment results, and make

recommendations accordingly.

b. Gather and monitor individual and group student data, including academic, attendance, and behavioral data.

c. Gather feedback from students, colleagues, parents/guardians, and community members to identify issues and barriers that impede student success.

d. Analyze and use collected data and feedback to plan appropriate activities and experiences for students.

e. Maintain and communicate student records according to laws, regulations, and confidentiality guidelines.

f. Develop measurable outcomes for school counseling activities, interventions, and experiences.

g. Collaborate to create ongoing, regular, pre- and post measures of the effectiveness of the comprehensive school counseling program.

h. Analyze the results of program evaluations and relevant data.

i. Report results to key stakeholders.

j. Continually use site-specific data to demonstrate results and refine, enhance or recommend changes to policies, procedures, and programs as needed to promote students’ academic, career, and social/emotional development.

Leadership and Advocacy:

1. Lead efforts to advocate for programs, policies, and practices that support a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment for all students.

a. Establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with students and parents/guardians.

b. Encourage teamwork and active collaboration among school personnel. c. Facilitate communications and partnerships within and outside of the

school.

d. Model skills in effective conflict resolution, techniques, and interpersonal relationships.

e. Demonstrate an understanding of diverse populations of learners. f. Advocate for practices that promote understanding and counteract

stereotypes.

g. Demonstrate commitment to VCS principles and model these attitudes and behaviors for school and community members.

h. Collaborate to create, implement, and recommend school safety initiatives.

i. Identify community, environmental and institutional factors that can enhance or impede students’ academic, career and social/emotional development.

j. Advocate for the resources needed to support all students’ academic, career, and social/emotional development.

k. Communicate the valuable role of the school counseling program to the

mission and core values of VCS and the success of its students.

l. In collaboration with campus leadership, provide professional learning

opportunities and/or resources for other members of the school

community.

Professional Responsibility, Knowledge, and Growth

1. Adhere to the ethical standards of the profession, engage in ongoing professional learning, and refine their work through reflective analysis.

a. Set goals that align with the school’s mission and the goals of the comprehensive professional development plan.

b. Use current trends and data to make decisions regarding professional learning.

c. Monitor, evaluate and refine counseling skills, program planning, and delivery.

d. Stay current with proven technology, up-to-date research, and practices. e.

Monitor and expand knowledge of social, cultural, and demographic shifts and trends which align with the mission and core values of VCS.

f. Understand and comply with legal and professional standards and requirements including federal requirements and state and local codes and policies.

g. Adhere to the ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors, which include detailed standards related to privacy/confidentiality and

multicultural/social justice advocacy.

h. Demonstrate knowledge of and adhere to laws and regulations regarding student evaluation and data reporting

i. Demonstrate effective skills in written, oral (speaking and listening) and

interpersonal communication (verbal and nonverbal; sensitivity to

others).

j. Seek opportunities in the school and district to positively impact school

improvements and student achievement.

Administrative Responsibilities:

1. Develop student schedules and ensure that all students are on-track for high school.

2. Enter student schedules into FACTS prior to the start of the school year. 3. Other responsibilities as determined by the building principal.
