K12 Instructional Reform Coordinator:

Title: K12 Instructional Reform Coordinator Reports To: Director of Elementary Education

Department: Teaching and Learning Work Year: 225 Days per year

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

Under the direction of the school principal and supported by District office staff, assist in the planning, development and implementation of site curriculum, instruction and staff development goals and objectives and in the evaluation of the effectiveness of educational programs, including staff development.

The Instructional School Reform Coordinator will work collaboratively with site and District leadership on the following strategies:


STRATEGY ONE:
Provide a common, standards-based instructional program so that all students have access to consistent and rigorous instruction.

STRATEGY TWO: Create and implement a system for monitoring student progress.

STRATEGY THREE: Create and effectively use District and school support to better meet the needs of students.


REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AS THE INSTRUCTIONAL SCHOOL REFORM COORDINATOR OF CURRICULUM:

  • Assist in the planning, development, organization, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of instructional programs and activities, curriculum development, program and activity development, and development of implementation processes. E[1]
  • Assist in the development, implementation, evaluation and reporting of professional development programs and activities.
  • Coach teachers directly in the classroom by modeling research-based literacy practices, observing lessons and providing opportunities for on-going reflection and feedback. E
  • Provide/coordinate professional development opportunities to deepen teachers’ knowledge of the literacy program. E
  • Design opportunities for teachers to see the best literacy practices demonstrated on site (e.g., lab classroom, demonstration lessons) and to share practices with one another (e.g., grade-level meetings, inquiry groups, peer observations). E
  • Oversee collection, analysis and use of data to identify student learning needs and improve literacy. E
  • Work with the principal to develop instructional leadership systems (e.g., literacy data monitoring conferences, classroom observations). E
  • Work with teachers to implement various literacy strategies in all content area classes. E
  • Assist in the planning, development, organization, coordination, supervision and evaluation of student assessment programs and activities, including site, District and state level assessments. E
  • Attend regularly scheduled Professional Development sessions provided by the District. E
  • Access, use and disseminate appropriate and relevant data to guide decisions around curriculum, instruction, staff development and school improvement.
  • Facilitate the school’s ability to maintain a focus on results, while implementing a coherent, standards-based instructional program.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Serve as a constructive “critical friend” to teachers and teacher leaders as they envision, strategize and reflect on the process of whole-school reform to achieve educational equity. E
  • Share leadership of the development, implementation, and monitoring of the school’s Corrective Action Plan. E
  • Work with staff and school community toward equitable outcomes for all students. E
  • Assess the effectiveness of the school’s literacy program on a regular basis, using teacher practice data, student work samples, classroom assessment data and student achievement data aligned to the California standards. E
  • Align school’s programs to support a focus on literacy. E
  • Facilitate the engagement of all stakeholders (certificated and classified staff, parents and community) in school-wide reform effort. E
  • Maintain a consistent focus on teaching to standards in all content areas.
  • Work with grade-level and school-wide teams to coordinate standards-based curriculum. E
  • Develop expertise in the core curriculum, adopted materials and other core reform programs at that site. E


EDUCATION AND CREDENTIALS:

  • Valid California Administrative Services Credential, and or appropriate Supervisor Credential.
  • Valid California Teaching Credential
  • At least three (3) years of demonstrative effectiveness as a teacher with expertise in literacy.
  • Demonstrated leadership with peers and with others in positions of authority; a track record of managing people to get results.
  • Coaching or consulting skills and experience; literacy coaching experience is preferable.
  • Experience in group facilitation and leading professional development in the field of literacy.
  • Successful experience working with diverse populations.

  • Student activity, behavior management, and campus supervision and control methods, procedures, and techniques.
  • Procedures, methods, techniques and strategies related to the administration and operation of a school.
  • Curriculum, instruction and pupil services trends, strategies, and techniques.
  • Program and activity evaluation strategies and procedures.
  • Methods, procedures, and strategies of instructional leadership.
  • Instructional software programs.


ABILITY TO:

  • Collaborate with appropriate District and school-based administrators and programs.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Plan, organize and coordinate the management functions of school programs and activities effectively.
  • Demonstrate a positive instructional leadership model.
  • Work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Establish and maintain effective organizational, public and community relationships.
