Position Description

Valiant Solutions is seeking an Information Assurance Engineer Lead to join our rapidly growing and innovative cybersecurity team for an opportuity in Suitland, MD!

As an Information Assurance Engineer Lead you will a team of ISSOs supporting a large Government client. The candidate will provide technical expertise on Security control implementations and the development of Information Security procedures for systems and applications. The successful candidate will have experience managing a large team of technical GRC professionals. You will be leading a large team of technical ISSOs supporting 14 FISMA systems including several FIPS 199 - High Level Systems.

Required Experience:

  • Must be willing to work 100% onsite in Suitland, MD
  • Minimum 5 years of related Information Assurance experience 
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering, related degree or an additional two (2) years of relevant experience. 
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with federal cybersecurity policies, regulations, and guidelines, including FISMA, FedRAMP, RMF, and NIST Special Publications.
  • Proven track record in leading information system security programs within federal agencies, including developing and implementing security policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Extensive experience in conducting security assessments, audits, and risk management activities to ensure compliance with federal security requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering security training and awareness programs tailored to federal employees and contractors.
  • Proficiency in preparing and maintaining documentation required for federal security compliance, such as System Security Plans (SSPs), Security Assessment Reports (SARs), and Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms).
  • Knowledge of federal incident response procedures and experience in coordinating incident response activities, including incident detection, analysis, containment, and recovery.
  • Familiarity with federal contracting processes and experience in providing security-related input to procurement activities, including vendor assessments and contract reviews.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills to support customers, internal stakeholders, peers, public audiences, including both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Experience:

  • Relevant cybersecurity certifications, strongly preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Manage individuals on the ISSO team, including:
    • Workload
    • System assignments
    • Periodic deliverables (Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Annually) of Valiant ISSOs
  • Support senior management (directors, authorizing officials, and CISO) by answering questions, solving problems, and directing workflow to achieve successful outcomes for the organization
  • Support the team of ISSOs as an escalation point within the chain of command
  • Serves as the IT security POC (ISSO) for assigned systems to ensure agency information systems comply with FISMA OMB and agency Policies.
  • Oversee and manage relationships for assigned systems that may be contractor-owned and contractor-operated, ensuring vendors comply with agency security and privacy requirements.
  • Assist stakeholders and Sr. management with IT security-related activities to ensure project deadlines are met. 
  • Ensure security activities are implemented throughout the SDLC from beginning to end.
  • Ensure all systems are operated, maintained, and disposed of IAW documented security policies and procedures, including but not limited to Assessment & Authorization (A&A). 
  • Support the development and maintenance of all security documentation such as the System Security Plan, Privacy Impact Assessment, Configuration Management Plan, Contingency Plan, Contingency Plan Test Report, POA&M, annual FISMA assessment, and incident reports and guide ISSOs in preparing and editing these documents.
  • Research assigned IT security systems to provide insight on IT security architectures and IT security recommendations for assigned systems.
  • Report, and respond to security incidents related to your assigned systems
  • Assess vulnerabilities to ascertain if additional safeguards are needed and ensure systems are patched and security hardened at all levels of the “stack,” and monitor to see that vulnerabilities are remediated as appropriate.
  • Promote Information Security Awareness and provide training.
