Overnight Awake people, apply today at https://valiantliving.org/getting-involved/online-application/ Our overnight awake direct support professionals are responsible for cleaning, cooking, checking in on people, doing laundry, and prepping for the next wonderful day during the overnight hours. Other duties include implementing programs as determined by the person’s planning team, attending to health and medical needs, following general and specific behavior management practices, completing preventive maintenance, administering medications after you're certified, and making a difference in someone's life.
Review of Duties:
a. Ability to lift 50 to 60 lbs. (depending on location you are working)
b. Ability to bend/twist, squat, reach above shoulders, use hand/wrist to support weight occasionally
c. Ability to assist people served with transferring utilizing lifts, mobility reinforcement (one and/or two staff assist) utilizing gait belt
d. Ability to stand/walk for 75% of their shift
e. Ability to use vision at 20 in. or less and 20 ft. or more
f. Depth perception that allows for judging distance and space
g. Ability to complete gross and fine motor activities with hands and fingers frequently.
a. At time, you may provide assistance with maintaining contact with natural supports (i.e. family, friends, co-workers, church congregation, etc.)
b. Assist with meal preparation and cleaning in accordance with the person’s plan.
c. Know and teach boundaries-hugging, personal space, privacy. Teach alternative ways to show affection such as shaking hands, side hugs, high fives etc.
d. Teach self-advocacy, and rights. Act as an advocate for people you support when necessary.
e. Assist with personal cares and grooming specific to each person’s plan. Act as a role model by dressing and acting appropriate to each activity in daily living.
f. Assist people to direct their own lives, providing support and information necessary for good decision-making.
a. Assist with fire drills, tornado drills, and other safety areas specific to each person.
b. Follow dietary recommendations specific to each person you assist, when preparing meals, assisting with feeding and following healthy lifestyle recommendations specific to the person’s diagnosis (i.e. high cholesterol, diabetic, high blood pressure etc.)
c. Observe and monitor for health and safety concerns at all times. Assist each person with identifying potential risks, at home, work and in the community. (i.e. pedestrian safety, personal care, safe administration of medications, sexuality, etc.) Assist the person to develop a plan and provide teaching to ensure the person’s safety.
a. Ability to read, understand and implement each person’s individual support plan, to include, but not limited to: Service Objective, Teaching/Behavioral Objectives, and Goals. Perform documentation via Therap every work shift.
b. Write incident reports as they arise. Reports can be done through utilization of written report form and/or computer IR database system.
c. Document in writing, necessary information in each person’s working file each day that you work. Document in the area shift log, medical log, and overnight log (when applicable).
d. Verbally communicate with staff, people supported, guardians, community members and other service providers.
e. Report concerns to supervisor, area coordinator, service coordinator and nurse as needed, in accordance with the agencies reporting procedures and chain of command.
f. Use respectful language when communicating with the people you are supporting.
