Summary:The Manager of Transportation is responsible for supervising and coordinating the transportation operations including developing and implementing transportation strategies and ensuring compliance with federal and state transportation regulations. The Manager is also responsible for managing transportation-related risks and evaluating and maintaining transportation equipment. This position requires an excellent leader, strategist, and problem-solver who can navigate complex logistics, manage budgets, ensure compliance, and communicate effectively.Job Responsibilities:Oversee and manage all transportation functions within the organization. Your duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Developing and implementing transportation policies and procedures to ensure safe and efficient operations. This includes developing policies related to driver behavior, vehicle maintenance, and transportation route planning. You will work closely with other departments within the organization to ensure that transportation policies are in line with overall company goals and objectives.
  • Overseeing all transportation operations, including the management of drivers and transportation staff, the maintenance of transportation vehicles, and the coordination of transportation routes. In this role, you will work closely with other departments within the organization to ensure that transportation operations are in line with overall company goals and objectives.
  • Ensuring that all transportation vehicles are properly maintained and functioning at a high level. This includes overseeing the maintenance and repair of transportation vehicles, as well as managing the lifecycle of transportation equipment to ensure that it is updated and replaced as needed.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations related to transportation is an essential aspect of this role. As the Manager, you will be responsible for staying up to date on all relevant laws and regulations, and for ensuring that the transportation department complies at all times.
  • Implementing and maintaining safety policies and procedures, as well as overseeing the training of transportation staff on safety best practices.
  • Managing and training transportation staff is an important aspect of this role. You will be responsible for hiring and training new transportation employees, as well as providing ongoing training and professional development opportunities for existing staff. You will also be responsible for managing and mentoring transportation staff to ensure that they are meeting performance expectations and contributing to the overall success of the transportation department.
  • Conduct regular meetings with all Drivers on a monthly basis.
Experience Requirements
  • Five to ten years of experience in transportation or logistics required, along with previous management or supervisory experience.
  • The candidate must be able to demonstrate experience in leading teams, managing budgets, and executing transportation operations. They should have experience in incident management, the ability to perform risk assessments, and implement corrective actions.
Education
  • High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or equivalent degree; or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • 2 or 4-year college degree in business management, supply chain management or similar major preferred.
Skills / Certification Requirements
  • The candidate must hold a valid WI Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or obtain one as soon as possible. A Hazardous Materials endorsement may also be required, as well as a transportation management certificate.
  • Position requires specific educational qualifications, relevant experience, and certification and licenses to be successful in this role.
  • Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, DOT rules and regulations; preferred work methods and standard operating procedures (SOP); spreadsheet software and word processing software, compliance software such as SAMSA / SYGMA.
  • Certificate of DOT regulations training is preferred.
  • Effective communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills to successfully execute transportation operations while remaining compliant with regulations, laws, and acting with safety as a key priority.
