Job Description

Client is looking for a motivated Systems Engineering Lead that will provide innovative solutions within a diverse Enterprise environment with multiple, cloud services and on-premises infrastructure components. The candidate will have expert level troubleshooting skills with the ability to analyze current technologies used within our organization and determine ways to improve performance and provide stability to backend services.

The Systems Engineering lead will provide leadership and subject matter expertise in the administration, maintenance and support of numerous backend systems that support the agencies application development, security, and desktop infrastructure. They will have responsibilities in directing and managing the workload of team members and managing the on-call support functions for the operations team.

The individual will work closely with Information Technology professionals to ensure technical components are available for projects and working properly. Document and monitor requirements needed to institute proposed updates or new services. They will be well versed in projecting for possible challenges on constraints including, risks, time, resources, and scope changes to the project. They will work closely with the supervisor and project teams to successfully monitor the progress of initiatives, provide detailed specifications for proposed solutions, and define clear goals for all aspects of a project and manage their proper execution. They will have the ability to direct a small team in completing tasks, improving on operational support or maintenance, and document processes as needed.

This position will be a technical lead for our backend infrastructure services. These services or systems include areas within the Microsoft Services arena including but not limited to Active Directory (AD) services including ADFS, Group Policy, Distributed File Services, Azure subscriptions, DHCP, and networking protocols and services. This person will be responsible for third (3rd) level technical support functions for the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), monitoring tools, multi-factor authentication, storage and backup, Power Shell scripting, and numerous customized off the shelf applications that have been implemented at Client. A high-level understanding of networking protocols and network connectivity will be required.

• A high-level of soft skills in collaborating with Information Technology professionals within the organization to ensure the proper infrastructure components are available, working as designed for projects or operations, and that best practices and organizational IT policies are being followed.

• The qualified candidate will have the ability to define and document system requirements and components based on user/client needs, costs, and required integration with existing applications, systems, or platforms.

• The candidate will have expert level system administration skills for Microsoft Windows servers, Active Directory Administration, and other MS core services like Group Policy, DFS, DHCP, DNS, to manage, monitor, and support our Agency Managed Application Servers.

• Candidate must be available to perform all work during the Central Standard Time (CST) business hours 9:00 am – 3 pm (or CST hours as defined by the hiring manager)

Duration:

• 06/30/2024, with the potential to extend for an additional term(s)

Onsite or Remote:

• This position is currently remote. However, position status is subject to change. 

• No WI residency required. Open to nationwide candidates.

• No designated workspace will be assigned however, selected candidate must be available to work at our location as needed.

• Client work location is 201 W. Washington Ave., Madison, WI 53703. Client does not pay for travel time or reimburse for travel expenses.

  • Expert level experience in the MS Windows server administration including all current supported OS versions - 15 years - Desired Experience
  • Active Directory Group Policy implementation and troubleshooting - 15 years - Desired Experience
  • Expert knowledge in supporting certificate services - 10 years - Desired Experience
  • Expert experience in implementing technology best practices in an organization - 10 years - Desired Experience
  • Proven competencies in documenting infrastructure components documentation with MS Visio - 10 years - Desired Experience
  • Expert knowledge in configuring LDAP - 10 years - Desired Experience
  • Expert knowledge of multi-factor authentication services - 5 years - Desired Experience
  • MS Office 365 support – Teams, email, other - 5 years - Desired Experience
  • System administrator for MS Azure subscriptions and services - 5 years - Desired Experience
