UW Candidate Experience is Hiring a Bus Driver, Paratransit - Transportation Services Near Laramie, WY

JOB TITLE:

Bus Driver, Paratransit

JOB PURPOSE:

Operate specialty ADA vehicles and transport individuals with disabilities on the Paratransit Service.

Please Note: 

  • This position is grant funded and considered at-will employment.
  • This position has been deemed essential as addressed in the University of Wyoming’s Employee Handbook. Employees in essential positions may be required to work during emergency closures and winter closure based on the nature of their job duties and the reasons for the closure. 
  • Working hours Monday - Friday 6:00am-3:00pm with an hour lunch break.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safely operate buses and specialty ADA vehicles on the paratransit service
  • Operate wheelchair lift/ramp and secure mobility equipment as necessary
  • Responsible for fare bag and collection of passenger fares as required
  • Perform routine pre and post trip safety inspections of vehicles to ensure equipment is operating within safe operating parameters. Maintain inventory of first aid and blood borne pathogen kits
  • Perform dispatch duties as required, which requires computer data entry
  • Maintain current training certifications including CPR, First Aid, TSI Paratransit Certification (or equivalent), Defensive Driving and any required OSHA training
  • Provide excellent customer service to all bus passengers, offer assistance and answer questions as required
  • Assist with shop and bus cleaning duties, maintain bus shelter cleanliness
  • Orient and train new drivers/dispatchers as required
  • Maintain appropriate written and electronic documentation as assigned or required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience: 1 year work-related experience

Required licensure, certification, registration or other requirement:

  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.
  • Must be able to pass all drug and/or alcohol screening required by the UW Drug and Alcohol Policy and applicable DOT regulations and participate in a random drug and alcohol testing pool. http://www.uwyo.edu/tps/_files/drugalcoholpolicy.pdf
  • Valid TSI certification/or equivalent (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)
  • Defensive Driving (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)
  • First Aid / CPR training certification (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Customer service experience

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of ADA policies and procedures
