Position Summary:

As a Pediatric Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), working under the supervision of attending anesthesiologists, you will play a vital role in providing professional nursing services by administering anesthesia primarily to pediatric surgery patients under the age of 18. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of anesthesia to pediatric patients with and without congenital heart disease.

 In this role, you will work closely with the anesthesia team including anesthesiology assistants, resident physicians, UT approved students, surgical team and other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive care plans tailored to the specific needs of each pediatric patient. You will collaborate with attending anesthesiologists to prepare and administer anesthetic agents, carefully monitor patients' vital signs and bodily functions, and adjust anesthesia levels as necessary throughout medical or surgical procedures.

 Your commitment to patient safety, attention to detail, and ability to remain calm under pressure will be essential as you navigate complex cases and manage any potential complications that may arise. Additional Summary Specific to Job

Certification as a Nurse Anesthetist. (CRNA). A minimum of 6 months of work experience in anesthetizing pediatric patients is desirable. Opportunity to onboarding will be provided.

 Position Key Accountabilities:

  1.  Prepares and administers anesthetic agents to patients in order to desensitize them to permit the performance of medical or surgical procedures. 2. Performs pre-anesthesia evaluation of the patient in order to ascertain physiological and psychological factors which influence the selection of anesthetic agent and the formulation of the plan of anesthetic management. 3. Monitors the patient in the operating room, outside locations (diagnostic imaging, endoscopy suites) and pediatric cardiac catheterization laboratory in order to maintain the patients in a homeostatic condition and to assure that unnecessary injuries are not inflicted on the patient. 4. Records anesthetic information on the anesthesia chart to provide a permanent record necessary for the care of the patient, to provide material for teaching, for study, and to establish a medical-legal record. 5. Provides clinical supervision or guidance of nurse anesthesia students, paramedical, and medical students in order to contribute to their clinical training. 6. Responds to emergency situations. 7. Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning. 8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Certification/Skills:

  • Competency in the placement of pediatric airway devices, and vascular access and understands or can interpret varied pressure monitoring and lab values.
  • Experienced as an R.N. in the critical and acute care areas, especially pediatric or neonatal; is familiar with the use and interpretation of EKG, arterial, central venous and pulmonary artery pressure monitoring; is skilled in respiratory management and blood gas analysis based on therapeutic knowledge

Certification/Skills:

Current Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse
Current Texas Licensure as APRN
Current American Association of Nurse Anesthetist certification (AANA)
BLS, ACLS and/or other specialty certification as required by department
The incumbent must meet 2 of 6 established requirements:
* Experienced in a major medical center or a major trauma receiving hospital.
* Skilled in administration of varied regional anesthesia techniques, i.e., spinal, epidurals, brachial plexus blocks.
* Skilled in the placement of arterial lines, CVP, and PA lines, and is capable in the use and interpretation of varied pressure monitoring and lab values.
* Active pursuit of continuing education credits.
* Experienced in academics, i.e., has worked with nurse anesthesia students, residents, and medical students.
* Experienced as an R.N. in the critical and acute care areas; is familiar with the use and interpretation of EKG, arterial, central venous and pulmonary artery pressure monitoring; is skilled in respiratory management and blood gas analysis based on therapeutic knowledge.

 Minimum Education:

Masters in Nurse Anesthesia

Minimum Experience:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
