Utah State University is Hiring a Public Relations Specialist Near Logan, UT

Overview

The Public Relations Specialist II position is an integral part of the communications team for the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services (EEJCEHS). The communications team works directly for the Dean’s office and handles communications, media, and marketing outreach for the entire college, which houses eight departments and eight professional centers. The Public Relations Specialist position requires excellent writing and editing skills, research skills, interviewing experience, project management, and content creation ability for print and electronic publications, including a monthly newsletter, magazines, websites, social media, student recruitment material, fund-raising proposals, and other general information.

Responsibilities

  • Organize, coordinate, and assist in public relations and communications strategies to advance the public profile of the college
  • Research, write, edit, and develop electronic and printed recruitment and communication materials
  • Create and manage content for social media, such as Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, and Twitter. 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of special events and promotional activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, marketing, public relations, communications or related field, and 2 years of relevant experience in professional writing, journalism, or public relations or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Professional writing skills
  • Presentation skills and ability to express ideas verbally and in writing
  • Strategic vision of communications and marketing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing social media channels for a large organization
  • Experience writing using AP style guidelines
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience in interviewing, working with project management software, and contributing to marketing strategies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven proofreading and editing skills and knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.
  • Ability to conduct effective interviews and write persuasively to convey subjects’ experience.
  • Self-starter: ability to work well both with a team and with minimal supervision.
  • Effective interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Effective organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with others to meet deadlines and to prioritize workload appropriately. 
  • Ability to self-assess performance against objectives and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Highly dependable and able to meet deadlines.
  • Able to work quickly and efficiently on multiple tasks.

    Advertised Salary

    Minimum $49,000; Commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits.
