Utah State University is Hiring a Database Administrator Near Logan, UT

Overview

The Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services seeks an experienced database administrator to work as an essential member of the technology services team to provide technical expertise in the design, implementation, and maintenance, support of college business applications—Electronic Medical Health Records (EMR), Student Records—and respective databases. The database administrator ensures logical data models are mapped effectively and efficiently into physical data models that take advantage of the characteristics of the database management systems (DBMS) used by the college and is responsible for technically administering and supporting multiple databases and applications that run college-wide business processes.

This position will manage databases and applications that house sensitive information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and maintains University databases. Development, design, and deployment of Point and Click (EMR) data entry templates and reports. Cooperatively works with faculty, staff and administration to gather information and analyze their needs to design functional and user-friendly templates and reports. Collaborates with team members to create and implement a Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity strategy. Supports EMR development database environment, including cloning production databases to development environments.
  • Assists with database upgrades and patching, cloning, query analysis, and optimization, and ERP software patching in both development and production environments. Collaborates to design, plan, and implement new database environments.
  • Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical systems.
  • Assists in developing, maintaining, and documenting third-party system integrations with the University EMR.
  • Collaborates to maintain and enforce database standards, policies and procedures, change management standards, and change control policies.
  • Creatively troubleshoots and resolves complicated software, hardware, and database related problems.
  • Evaluates, recommends, and utilizes software tools to monitor and manage database health and performance.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science (CS), or a related field is required. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Electronic Medical Record Systems.
  • Experience with Point and Click Electronics Medical Records software.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL server systems.
  • Experience with .NET web applications programming. 
  • Experience in a HIPAA environment.
  • Knowledge of FERPA, HITECH, and USU IT policies and procedures.
  • Experience working in a HIPAA environment.
  • Knowledge of USU IT policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge and ability in management and development of database systems
  • Knowledge and ability in implementation of database backup strategies and recovery plans.
  • Knowledge and ability in data modeling, managing and maintaining clinical datasets.
  • Knowledge and ability in enterprise network security and management of information security.

  • Skilled at problem solving and analysis.
  • Ability to develop, design, and deploy Point and Click data entry templates and reports.
  • Ability to analyze customer needs to design functional and user-friendly templates and reports.
  • Ability to stay current with technological developments and advancements.
  • Ability to maintain required training and credentials for HIPAA, FERPA, and HITECH regulations and college procedures.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
