Utah State University is Hiring an Adjunct Instructor (Temporary) Building Construction and Construction Management (BCCM) Near Blanding, UT

Overview

Position/Contract: Temporary Contract Oct 1 through December 21, 2022.

USU Blanding is seeking a dynamic, knowledgeable, and experienced candidate to teach in the Building Construction Program for the remainder of the Fall 2022 semester.

The program prepares individuals for careers in residential and commercial building construction and construction management. With skills in construction and building management, program completers will be ready for entry level positions in the construction industry.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and deliver classroom and hands-on instruction focused on workforce training, and industry-approved certifications.
  • Demonstrate proper and safe techniques of the construction trade including framing, concrete, interior, exterior finish and other related courses.
  • Knowledge of the building construction industry and residential and commercial materials, estimating, scheduling, blueprint reading, and building codes.
  • Implement a competency-based program
  • Responsible for management and upkeep of building construction equipment and construction projects or workshops.
  • Responsible for the coordination of annual program advisory committees (PAC) meetings.
  • Teach adults, high school, and community education courses related to building construction.
  • Teach non-credit courses that provide certifications for industry.
  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
  • Recruit and mentor building construction students.
  • Participate and promote Skills USA, serving as the USU Blanding advisor.
  • Actively participate in professional growth and development activities.
  • Supervise interns and provide an opportunity for internships/training partnerships with industry
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications for the Professional Practice Instructor:

  • Five or more years as a construction contractor where industry or related experience is performed to a recognized industry code and is primarily focused on residential and commercial construction.
  • Possess a Utah General Contractor’s License or the ability to obtain the license within one year.
  • Ability to teach building construction with hand tools and power tools.
  • Capable to instruct students on current OSHA safety standards and maintain a safe worksite.
  • Demonstrated knowledge with the use of multiple construction materials and processes.
  • Operate heavy equipment related to the construction industry (e.g., backhoe, excavator, forklift, and construction lifts and booms).
  • Teaching focused candidate who understand and is committed to the Career and Technical Education mission of USU Blanding.
  • A desire to succeed and a willingness to work to become a better instructor.
  • Cultural sensitivity and an ability to build rapport with a culturally diverse workforce in a multicultural setting.
  • Dynamic interpersonal skills and a commitment as a team member; ability to foster consensus and collaboration.
  • An ability to set specific departmental goals and develop related curriculum.
  • An ability to accommodate student learning styles through field exercises, labs, hands-on, lecture, self-directed learning, and possibly capstone projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified OSHA instructor.
  • Experience with the National Center for Construction Education and Research standards ( https://www.nccer.org/nccer-home ).
  • Familiarity with open-entry and open-exit curriculum design and commitment to implement as needed. A dedication to seek solutions for non-traditional learners.
  • Experience in designing and implementing competency-based teaching and learning.

    $4961.25 per month

    The environment and physical requirements may change depending on the specific function of the work each department performs. Incumbents may be in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors, in an office space, event space, or public space are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Incumbents may nearly continuously sit and often use repetitive hand motion (such as typing).

    Outdoors, incumbents may not be protected from weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold. Additionally, indoor or outdoor work environments may include being confined or in narrow spaces for periods of time. The incumbent may also be exposed to loud noises or vibrations from equipment, and conditions that may affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation. Bending, crawling, and crouching may be required. Incumbents may be required to lift, push, and/or pull objects up to 50 pounds and be required to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
