Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Accountability
Overall
The primary role of the Soldier Hollow Cross Country Comp and Elite Head is to lead Team SOHO’s Comp Team (high school aged athletes) and the Elite team (Collegiate aged athletes). Integration of these teams and athletes with the rest of our nordic programs is vital in creating a cohesive program that will consistently develop nationally and internationally competitive athletes. The Head Coach is responsible for implementing Team SOHO’s vision amongst both programs. The Head Coach reports to Senior Manager of Sport and Head Biathlon Coach to ensure XC and Biathlon program cohesivity.
Program Administration
Assist with training, scheduling, and management of all Team SOHO XC staff and volunteers.
Manage XC Programs within a set budget.
Maintain a healthy relationship with the local, regional, and national nordic communities.
Assist marketing with promoting Team SOHO XC programs and building Team SOHO’s online presence both on social media and our website.
Plan Training Camps and Race Trips; this includes building budgets, managing registration, booking accommodations, scheduling staff, running the camp/race trip, etc...
Coaching
Implement and Plan Day to Day Training for both the Comp and Elite Teams.
Create and manage training programs for all comp and elite athletes. This entails creating an annual training plan that will allow athletes to reach their goals, managing training logs, and communicating the weekly training plan.
Implementation of Lactate testing and utilizing that knowledge to train athletes to their full potential.
Ability to train ski technique through video, in-person, and with biathlon considerations.
Work with biathlon and youth ski coaches to ensure all programs are running smoothly and communicating technical cues in a universal way.
Facility Maintenance
Help manage and maintain roller ski fleet.
Help manage and maintain vehicle and trailer fleet .
Help manage and maintain test ski fleets.
Help manage and maintain team wax supply and equipment.
Communication
Collaborate on recruitment opportunities for all Team SOHO programs.
Assist with Marketing as necessary.
Assist with fundraising.
Develop a strong communication plan for your athletes, volunteers, and assistant coaches to create a robust and healthy team community.
Required Knowledge and Essential Skills
Extensive knowledge of XC skiing technique and training methodology
Extensive knowledge of all XC ski equipment: roller ski maintenance, waxing, skis (grinds, flex, etc.)
Excellent organizations skills
Excellent communication skills both oral and written
Ability to work well in a team and on your own
Proficiency with Microsoft Programs: excel, word, etc..
Ability to be flexible with your work schedule to best serve the athletes
Minimum Qualifications
Strong coaching background in XC Skiing or Biathlon (3 years)
USSS Level 100 minimum, 200 preferred or equivalent
University Degree with qualifications related to sport is a plus
SafeSport and CPR/1st Aid Certified
Valid driver's license
Environmental Job Requirements
Ability to work outside in all environmental extremes (both hot and cold)
