Description
Critical Tasks
• Uses appropriate medical equipment to produce images of tissues, organs, bones,
vessels and other anatomic structures.
• May specialize in specific areas of the radiology field such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), sonography, mammography, computed tomography (CT), nuclear medicine and radiation therapy.
• Explains procedures to patients and answers patient questions.
• Prepares equipment and examination rooms for needed use and sanitizes equipment as required by regulatory authority.
• Positions patients for imaging exams.
• Monitors patients during radiology examinations.
• Produces diagnostic images of tissues, organs, bones, vessels and other anatomic
structures.
• Surrounds the exposed patient area with radiation protective devices.
• Positions radiologic equipment at the correct angle and height over the appropriate area of a patient.
Key Performance Indicators
• Adjusts controls on the x-ray machine or radiological equipment to produce appropriate density, detail and contrasts of appropriate body parts being measured and examined.
• Maintains patients records in accordance with HIPPA.
• Adjust and maintains equipment appropriately.
• Recommends and assist in the purchasing of clinic equipment related to the radiology department
• Ensures patients are properly undressed for procedures using appropriate clinic dressing and ascertaining patients have removed all jewelry or objects of obstruction to radiologic imaging.
• At all times understands the physician notes requiring a radiology procedure or exam.
• Communicates effectively and professionally with the physician.
• Communicates effectively with UNHS patients making sure their questions are answered and they are knowledgeable about the procedure they are about to undergo or the procedure recommended by the physician.
Metrics
• Images produced match the requests of the attending physician.
• Images produced can be clearly seen and read by the physician.
• Results of images and communications with physicians and patients will include a strong knowledge of all terminology used in radiography, anatomy and pathology.
• Will receive no valid or substantiated complaints by patients, physicians or other UNHS staff.
• Will receive no citations or complaints on work products produced by any regulatory authority.
• Is viewed, observed and seen as possessing good beside manners and producing a level of comfort for all patients served.
Requirements
• Associates Degree required from an accredited community college or college/university in the Applied Science of Radiography.
• Active DOPL Radiologic Technologist license.
• Active American Heart Association BLS card (CPR and AED)
• Two years of experience is preferred but not required.
