UT Southwestern Medical Center is Hiring a Psychiatric Social Worker, LMSW - Psychiatry Dept Near Dallas, TX

JOB SUMMARY: 

Shift: 10-hour day shifts 8:00am-6:30pm / Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

We have a new employment opportunity within the Psychiatric Department for a Social Worker. This will be for a full-time Social Worker to work within the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at Clements University Hospital. This role will provide support as follows: 

  • Psychiatric inpatient patient population
  • Perform bio-psychosocial evaluations
  • Provide MH resources in a highly-risk, high-volume population
  • LCSW candidates are highly preferred
  • Masters in Social Work (LMSW) actively pursuing supervision
  • 2 years experience highly preferred 

The idea applicants' day will be include by not be limited to the following: 

  • Responsibilities are heavily related to psychosocial and psychiatric needs of the patient presenting to the Emergency Department for evaluation.
  • Provide mental health evaluation and make recommendations to the provider for mental health facility placement or outpatient support based on severity of symptoms.
  • Assist in placement referrals to psychiatric facilities.
  • Submit applications for financial assistance related to mental health support.
  • Submit to the court symptoms in cases where an Order of Protective Custody is required.
  • Conduct complex psycho-social assessments and interventions to promote timely throughput, facilitate a safe discharge, and prevent avoidable readmissions.
  • Related to psychosocial and psychiatric needs of the patient presenting to the Emergency Department for evaluation.
  • Provide mental health evaluation and make recommendations to the provider for mental health facility placement or outpatient support based on severity of symptoms.
  • Possess your LCSW or is an LMSW actively working towards obtaining the LCSW certification.
  • Experience will be used with protective custody, MH holds, telehealth with court systems, FMLA services, medically complex psychiatric cases, etc.

EXPERIENCE and EDUCATION:

  • Graduate of an Institution certified by the Council of Social Work Education with a Masters in Social Work Current license is required by the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners.
  • Temporary license is acceptable during first 90 days of employment. BCLS not required in transplant departments. 
  • Prefer 2 years experience.
  • Good general health and stress coping ability.
  • Full mobility and ability to participate in vigorous activity.
  • Ability to speak and hear, to allow discussions with physicians, patients and other members of the healthcare team. Possess near vision for accurate reading of computer screens and recording on patient charts. Must be able to walk reasonable distances to cover multiple nursing units.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Participates in multidisciplinary rounds and proactively determines patient needs for discharge transitions including: transportation, DME, LTAC, SNF, home health agencies and hospice.
  • Utilizes crisis intervention and problem solving skills to facilitate and enhance patient and family's ability to meet acute and ongoing medical and psychosocial needs.
  • Demonstrates ongoing familiarity with community resources to facilitate positive patient and family outcomes agencies to assure appropriate client access.
  • Maintains effective documentation including tracking and referral information; consistently meets department and UTSW documentation standards.
  • Identifies and reports situations or cases to appropriate governmental agencies as legally required and in compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Serves as an active participant of the health care team, communicating effectively with other health care providers, patients, families, other hospital personnel, and visitors.
  • Identifies the need for professional growth and seeks appropriate development opportunities.
  • Provides education to staff, patients and community resource affiliates.
  • Maintains system for tracking placement of patients after discharge on monthly basis.
  • Has knowledge of Department and Unit Performance Improvement program and is aware of expected participation.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
