Job Summary

The Department of Ophthalmology is hiring an Ophthalmic Photographer to help with our commitment to enhance patient care and comfort. As an Ophthalmic Photographer you will determine optimal photographic techniques and instruments to ensure the desired data is gathered for all ophthalmology procedures. The photographer will use their expertise to enhance patient facing practices and to advance departmental procedures and policies.

Experience and Education

  • Completion of two (2) years college and vocational training in ophthalmic diagnostic photography and angiography.

  • Candidate should have a minimum two (2) years of recent clinical photography experience with working knowledge of optical coherence tomography (OCT), fundus photography, digital fluorescein angiography, digital ICG angiography, external and slitlamp photography.

  • Candidate will also need working knowledge of an IOL Master or Lenstar and corneal topography; a minimum of 1-2 years of clinical trials/research experience preferred; and knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology of the eye.

  • Certification as a Certified Retinal Angiographer (CRA) or Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT) preferred.

  • Must be certified within one year of hire date as a CRA or OCT.

Job Duties

  • Coordinates patient scheduling for diagnostic photography and angiography of eye. Maintains patient records.

  • Performs ophthalmic imaging and diagnostic studies as designated by the ordering physician, uploading images to the Electronic Medical Record for review. Reviews with ordering physician quality of work performed.

  • Prepares photographic material for weekly Retina Conferences and ophthalmic photographic exhibits at meetings of ophthalmologist and/or ophthalmic photographers.

  • Instructs resident physicians in fundus photography procedures.

  • Maintains and repairs ophthalmic photography equipment at laboratory.

  • Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: (a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; (b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; (c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or (d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.

  • **Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information
