Job Summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is hiring for Immigration Specialist, International Affairs Works to provide advisory, guidance, and administrative skills throughout several phases of immigration process in Office of International Affairs.

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Humanities or related field and a minimum of two (2) years of experience.
  • Experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Preferred: Master's degree plus one (1) year of directly related work experience. Must possess U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency, as mandated by federal regulations.

Job Duties

  • Help to ensure university compliance with Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) reporting and other regulatory requirements.
  • SEVIS troubleshooting including interacting with the SEVIS Help Desk regarding error tickets, monitoring SEVIS alerts and batch errors and recommending changes in SEVIS-related business processes in response to regulatory changes, systems changes or office efficiency needs.
  • Subject matter expert for International Student and Scholar Management (ISSM) software used for F-1 and J-1 SEVIS batch reporting, employment based visa petition forms preparation, print-merge and/or email visa renewal reminder letters, and ad hoc reports as needed to ensure continued employment eligibility for visa holders on campus.
  • Serve as International Affairs liaison with campus technical support specialists regarding ISSM and assist with testing of patches and upgrades.
  • Build and maintain current regulatory knowledge regarding F-1 student and J-1 exchange visitor visa classifications, and a working knowledge of regulations pertaining to the various employment-based visa classifications.
  • Represent UT Southwestern as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) to provide back-up coverage as needed for Senior Immigration Specialists.
  • Audit hard copy and electronic records to assure compliance with state, federal, local, and institutional regulations.
  • Submit E-Verify screening of newly arrived international staff within an established timeline, monitor E-Verify “tentative non-confirmation” notices, and coordinate with Senior Immigration Specialists to assure timely response to such notices.
  • Assist with management of hard copy filing system to assure files are stored in appropriate location and alphabetical order within established time frame.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Work requires moderate understanding of basic concepts of all visas found at UT Southwestern.
  • Work requires in-depth knowledge of one or two types of visas. • Work requires an outstanding attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with deadlines.
  • Work requires strong organizational ability, excellent analytical skills, strong communication skills, and demonstrated intercultural skills.
  • Work requires high degree of accountability and small margin of error on all data and information given and received.
  • Knowledge of F and J regulations, excellent computer skills and a facility with software applications are required.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed primarily in general office area.
