ASSISTANT DEAN FOR HEALTH SYSTEMS SCIENCE

OFFICE FOR GRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION

The Long School of Medicine (LSOM) at the University of Texas Health San Antonio (UTHSA) seeks a dynamic, innovative leader with an outstanding record in the development and implementation of Health Systems Science (HSS) programs for residents and fellows. The candidate for this part-time position must have experience with clinical safety & effectiveness, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives. The individual must possess operational leadership qualities as well as scientific and educational achievement for the role of Graduate Medical Education (GME) Assistant Dean for Health Systems Science. A spirit of collaboration, clear communication, strong interpersonal skills, and a keen strategic vision for Health Systems Science program development are crucial characteristics required for success. Reporting to the LSOM Vice Dean for GME, the GME Assistant Dean for Health Systems Science will be responsible for working directly with Office for GME faculty and staff to enhance Health Systems Science programs for LSOM residents and fellows. This individual will work within the various LSOM departments and divisions to help them develop their own unique HSS curricula in a collegial interactive culture as required by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). This individual will Co-Chair the Institutional GME Health Systems Science Action Committee and be the primary liaison with counterparts at University Health and the South Texas Veteran’s Healthcare System.

Candidates must have a doctorate-level medical degree, board certification in their specialty, and a current academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The ideal candidate will have an emerging national reputation in their field, experience as a GME program leader, experience implementing the ACGME Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) pathways, and collaborating with or directing large health system quality and safety initiatives The ability to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability across the Health Science Center and major participating GME sites is essential.
