Responsibilities:
Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and preforms these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization’s values; adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality; requires minimal supervision to safely perform essential functions; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving equipment/supplies that are necessary to perform essential functions; performs pharmaceutical care activities and functions; maintains and operates equipment; reports broken or malfunctioning equipment; maintains current and adequate medications and supplies; performs patient care activities on the pharmacy computer system in a safe and timely manner; utilizes a personal computer or terminal to access the Hospital Information System or the Pharmacy Purchasing System; performs all tasks necessary to prepare and deliver medications using a variety of transport mechanisms; restocks all work areas by transfer of stock or filling of appropriate carts/drawers including emergency stock; performs all essential job functions assigned to Pharmacy Technician I and II’s; orients and educates all new department technician staff; manages a variety of contracts; monitors outdated products and processed returns for prompt credit and disposal; processes the ordering of drugs and supplies and processes invoices for all campuses; coordinates the procurement and maintenance of inventories for both medication and non-drug supplies necessary for the functions of the department; generates purchasing and inventory reports and analyzes reports as requested; prepares and secures authorizations to purchase, using Medclick; maintains relationships with fellow hospitals for borrow and loan purposes; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team in person and via telephone; responds to overhead pages; maintains accurate and complete records by: utilizing the correct documentation tools and procedures for all pharmacy functions and maintaining proper records for all medications and controlled substances dispensed or received; accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict; cooperates and helps others improve the performance of the department; completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements; utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job; maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas, equipment and supply areas; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; participates on committees as assigned; participates in Performance Improvement activities as assigned; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime and call as required; related duties as required.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent, registry with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy (ALBOP) as a Pharmacy Technician, nationally certified pharmacy technician with the PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) or NHA (National Healthcare Association) and completion of sterile compounding training with USA Health within six months of employment. Experience is preferred.
