Responsibilities:
Provides medical management of newborn infants, primarily those with emergent, acute and chronic illness, under the review and/or supervision of a neonatologist or designated M.D.; performs delivery room resuscitation of newborns including endotracheal intubation, positive pressure ventilation, calculation and/or administration of resuscitation medication, insertion of peripheral and central vascular lines, placement of needle or tube for evacuation of body spaces (relief), pneumothoraces, pericardial fluid or air, peritoneal fluid or air, or pleural fluid; manages medical problems of neonates and all common medical problems of pre and post operative neonates;manages mechanical ventilation in neonates; performs diagnostic procedures;conducts discharge preparation for neonates;provides care to normal newborn infants; participates in clinical research; serves as preceptor to clinical nurse practitioner students and residents in neonatal management; collects data for neonatal population database; provides parent education; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; includes night and weekends; related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in nursing from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by USA Health and the University of South Alabama, completion of an approved nurse practitioner training program, certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, a current Alabama RN license or current Multi-State RN License in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama. Note: USA Health abides by the NLC requirements and guidelines for the state of Alabam
