Responsibilities:

Installs and repairs refrigeration and air conditioning equipment according to blueprints and schematic drawings; assembles structural and functional components; responds to problems with HVAC systems to include Trane rotary and Carrier and York centrifugal carriers up to 1,000 tons by troubleshooting and making repairs; maintains and repairs controls for closed loop distribution systems of chilled and heating water; inspects and tests all HVAC equipment for proper operation; reports problems for correction; performs preventative maintenance on refrigeration and air conditioning equipment; to include oiling, adjusting, aligning, replacing belts and filters, adding and removing refrigerant liquids and gases, and replacing motors; performs special tests of operational capabilities of equipment and systems to include refrigerant liquid or gas levels, temperature and pressure settings, water and gas pressures, thermostat calibrations, electrical voltages, and air exchange tests; checks, installs, modifies, tests, repairs, and troubleshoots controls of building management system; climbs ladders and scaffolding and navigates confined, obstructed and difficult to access spaces and equipment while performing assigned duties; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, and hospital staff in person and via telephone; responds to overhead pages; communicates via radio in proper and timely manner; maintains complete and accurate records; abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organizations values; adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety regulations; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as assigned and overtime and call as required; related duties as required.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent, five years experience in the operation and maintenance of HVAC systems, two of which were in a commercial/industrial setting, and Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification. Possession of a valid drivers license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain coverage under the University of South Alabama. Successful completion of a program of study in HVAC at an accredited vocational/technical school may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
