Responsibilities

Various Shifts Available

Assesses the patient, plans individualized care, identifies expected outcomes, and implements and evaluates nursing interventions for patients and families; provides direct patient care according to unit specific competencies; performs therapeutic procedures and assists with diagnostic procedures; administers medications including controlled substances by all routes; administers blood and blood products; responds to emergency patient situations; starts IV s; performs activities of daily living; requires minimal supervision to safely perform patient care; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving, positioning and transferring patients and equipment; serves as Charge Nurse when assigned; demonstrates and maintains CPR; abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies; adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality; cares for the patients on Intraaortic Balloon Pump (IABP) and Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD); performs basic EKG interpretation; performs hemodynamic monitor set-up, maintenance, monitoring and use inclusive of arterial lines, flow directed catheters, and ICP lines; manages patients being mechanically ventilated and receiving temporary/permanent cardiac pacing; initiates and titrates medications including emergency meds, vasoactive, antiarrhythmic, insulin infusion, sedation infusions, blood and blood components; uses SVO2 and camino monitors; pulls Arterial Sheaths; follows unit standards for documentation i.e. alarm limits, turning, suctioning, tubing, fluid and dressing changes; serves as preceptor for new employees and nursing students; demonstrates ability to provide competent patient care to the following populations: pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric; maintains accurate and complete medical records by utilizing the correct documentation tools and procedures; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; communicates with physicians, patients, families, and health care team in person and via telephone; responds to overhead pages; accesses and accurately maintains electronic and paper medical records; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and a current Alabama RN license or current Multi-State RN License in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama. Note: USA Health abides by the NLC requirements and guidelines for the state of Alabama.
