Duties

The responsibilities of the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) are divided among five elements: Veteran Care, Customer Service, Reporting and Documentation, Safety, and Education. Duties listed below but not limited to:

• Performs procedures, collections, treatments, and assistance while monitoring and observing the patient, under the supervision of the RN.
• Provides patient care in compliance with the policies, procedures, and standards set forth by the medical center.
• Works in collaboration with the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or the Health Care Provider (HCP).
• Performs treatments according to established policies and procedures.
• Observes for physical and/or cognitive changes in patient condition from prescribed medications and treatments. Promptly and accurately documenting noted changes, and reporting deviations from normal to the RN or HCP.
• Knowledge and understanding of human behavior, patient motivations and reactions to situations and ability to appropriately utilize this knowledge in working effectively with patients, family members, and other staff.
• Establishes constructive relationships with individual patients and their families to elicit feelings and attitudes to promote positive relationships, communication, and socialization skills. Fosters an environment of respect for individual Veterans and rights to privacy and dignity in all aspects of care delivery.
