Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM): Functions as a supervisor in collaboration with the Nurse Manager. Shares responsibility for all the following functions: (1) Assist in planning work to be accomplished by staff, assist with setting priorities and preparing schedules for completion of work; (2) Assigning work to staff based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and the requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of staff; (3) Provide input into evaluating the performance of staff; (4) Making recommendations for appointments, advancements or reassignments of staff; (5) Giving advice after collaborating with the Nurse Manager (NM), counsel, or instruction to staff on work and administrative matters; (6) Hearing and resolving complaints of staff and referring more serious complaints not resolved to Nurse Manager (7) Recommending disciplinary action where appropriate; and (8) Identifying developmental and training needs of staff and providing or making provision for such development and training. Additionally share responsibility for performance improvement, customer service/resident satisfaction, resident and employee safety, interviewing applicants, employee relations, standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards. Actively develops and manages collaborative partnerships with providers and other clinicians. Works with other Nurse Managers/Supervisory Nurses to identify and share resources. Assists with time scheduling of the unit, and coaching staff. Participates on service and medical center committees and task forces to improve nursing practice and resident care. Identifies educational needs of staff and ensures that these needs are addressed. Shares responsibility for competency of staff on assigned unit/ team/ work group. Has an integral role in supporting and facilitating student nurse clinical experiences. Works in partnership with the union and adheres to EEO principles. In the absence of a Nurse Manager/Supervisory Nurse, the Assistant Nurse Manager will be designated to handle administrative and clinical issues, such as staffing coverage, granting leave, and resident and/or staff issues.
