The Electrical Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, and ensures the work is in accordance with relevant codes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The essential duties and responsibilities of this job are included but not limited to this job description – other tasks may be assigned and expected to be performed.

Level 1 Electrical Technician must be able to proficiently perform the following tasks:

  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Explain the responsibilities of an electrician.
  • Identify, explain, and install various conduit and connectors.
  • Thread conduit ends using power hand tools.
  • Identify, explain, and use various hand tools.
  • Trace out circuits in wiring using test meter.
  • Drill holes and pull or push wiring through openings using non-energized equipment. 
  • Transport tools, materials, equipment, and supplies. 
  • Strip insulation from wire ends using wire stripping pliers.
  • Identify, explain, and install various types electrical fittings.
  • Other tasks or projects as assigned

Level 2 Electrical Technician must be able to proficiently perform the following tasks:

  • Perform and understand all competencies & job requirements of Electrical Technician Level 1
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components
  • Test electrical systems using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and non-energized equipment
  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring based on job specifications and local codes
  • Have basic understanding of schematic drawings 
  • Assist others in producing bill of materials 
  • Other tasks or projects as assigned

Level 3 Electrical Technician must be able to proficiently perform the following tasks:

  • Perform and understand all competencies & job requirements of Electrical Technician Level 1 & 2
  • Populate bill of materials in accordance with drawings, job specifications, and/or local codes
  • Understand all applicable local and state codes
  • Full understanding of schematic drawings and ability to direct work in strict accordance with drawings and specifications
  • Direct and train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring and/or equipment
  • Must have OSHA 30 when in charge of jobs.
  • Other tasks or projects as assigned

Level 4 Electrical Technician must be able to proficiently perform the following tasks:

  • Perform and understand all competencies & job requirements of Electrical Technician Level 1, 2 & 3
  • Ability to clearly lead and direct subordinates to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring and/or fixtures in strict accordance with all applicable codes
  • Ability to manage crew to perform within given durations and/or work hours
  • Provides requisitions to Project Coordinator or Project Manager for tools and consumables
  • Provides material requisitions to Project Coordinator or Project Manager as needed
  • Ability to use MEGA & arc flash safety equipment
  • Ability to utilize cable pulling and feed equipment (wire trigger & wire feeder)
  • Ability to utilize one shot conduit bender
  • Responsible for all construction personnel assigned
  • Has no control over Safety Personnel and will abide by and reinforce Safety Personnel’s instruction
  • Reports all construction personnel on site daily to Project Coordinator or Project Manager
  • Responsible for reviewing and submitting JSAs and Shift Logs
  • Performs quality audits on all work performed on site
  • Reviews all purchase requests submitted by field and sends approvals to Project Coordinator or Project Manager
  • Must have OSHA 30 when in charge of jobs.
  • Other tasks or projects as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma preferred
  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy
  • Make decisions based on measurable criteria
  • Apply mathematics to solve problems
  • Plan basic work and select proper tools
  • Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings
  • Work at heights without fear
  • Compare and see differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects
  • Level 1 - Entry-level position in the Electrical trade with less than two (2) years of experience or no experience in the field. Level 1 Technicians work under immediate supervision.
  • Level 2 - Advanced knowledge in the Electrical trade with more than two (2) years’ experience. Level 2 Technicians work under immediate supervision.
  • Level 3 - Advanced knowledge in the Electrical trade with more than four (4) years of experience. Must have OSHA 30 when in charge of jobs. Level 3 Technicians work independently.
  • Level 4 - Advanced knowledge in the Electrical trade with more than six (6) years of experience. Must have OSHA 30 when in charge of jobs. Must have passed and maintain State Certified Journeyman’s Electrical Card. Level 4 Technicians work independently and must exercise independent judgement.
