Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY
As a Social Science Analyst, you will use your knowledge and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by:

  • Planning, developing and integrating the overall data and evaluation plan of the Office including the formulation and establishment of Office policies and goals, determination of organizational staff and budget requirements.
  • Providing leadership and direction in the areas of data collection, analysis, and methodologies.
  • Planning and implementing joint Center, Agency and Department activities affecting or directly related to data collection, analysis and related activities.
  • Attending and speaking at inter-Agency, Government and private sector seminars and forums to promote understanding of SAMHSA policies and goals.

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Basic Qualifications: You must meet one of the items listed below:
  • Possess a 4-year bachelor's or higher degree in behavioral or social science from an accredited college or university; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (Must provide transcripts)
  • Possess a combination of education and experience
  • - that provided you with the knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. (Must provide transcripts)
  • Possess four years of appropriate experience that demonstrates acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
Minimum Qualifications: You must have one-year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service performing at least three (3) of the following:
  • Managing programs to enhance public health evaluation, quality improvement, and/or monitoring activities.
  • Providing leadership and/or direction in the areas of public health data collection, analysis, and survey methodology.
  • Providing technical guidance on program evaluation and performance.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and/or editing evaluation and performance reports.
  • Working in behavioral health, preferably crisis or suicide prevention services.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through national Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to gain employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
