US Naval Sea Systems Command is Hiring a QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIALIST (SHIPBUILDING) Near Pascagoula, MS

Duties

  • You will coordinating SUPSHIP Quality Assurance efforts to assure contractor compliance to the Navy and commercial welding, brazing, and allied processes specifications and standards.
  • You will review and approve contractor non-destructive test (NDT) and welding procedures, perform procedure reviews, conduct independent surveys, provide in-process inspections, and witness contractor welding qualification, testing, and evaluation.
  • You will be responsible for maintaining the SUPS HIP Gulf Coast Non-Destructive Test and Evaluation program by training, testing, and certifying Navy personnel.
  • You will develop the Department's professional and technical resources by developing, conducting, and reviewing additional internal training programs.
  • You will prepare for ship and craft testing and trials by providing leadership, participation, and technical assistance in the conduct and monitoring of advanced ship systems tests and trials.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Level III certification in visual testing (VT), magnetic particle testing (MT), liquid penetrant testing (PT).
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Level II certification in either ultrasonic inspection (UT) of weldments and silverbraze inspection, or radiographic testing (RT) of weldments.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector conducting quality assurance (QA) inspections, assessments or audits to evaluate Non-Destructive Test (NDT) and welding procedures to ensure compliance with established QA requirements and standards in support of shipbuilding operations.

If selected, you will be required to attain and maintain Level III certification in visual testing (VT), magnetic particle testing (MT), liquid penetrant testing (PT), and Level II certification in either ultrasonic inspection (UT) of weldments and silverbraze inspection, or radiographic testing (RT) of weldments, as prescribed in the SUPSHIP Operations Manual These certifications will be required within 12 months of accepting the position. These certifications are performed at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNSY) in Kittery, ME.
