Duties

As the Laborer Leader, you will:

• This position leads laborers and housekeepers in performing general cleaning tasks. Assigns work delegated by the supervisor and ensures the work is started on time. Sets the pace for work to be performed. Demonstrates proper work methods and proper safety precautions.
• Cleans, disinfects and deodorizes lavatories, urinals, toilet bowls, walls, floors, mirrors, sinks, vanities and stocks lavatories with heavy items in high closed areas. Cleans high ceiling items such as walls, windows, floors Venetian Blinds, and moves heavy items to clean floor base, doors, door hardware, furniture, counter-tops, columns, ledges, stairs, stair rails, office picture frames/glass, office equipment.
• Reports progress to the supervisor, as well as reports reasons for delays. Assists with the setup of special events, seminars, conferences and concerts.
• Ensures that there is enough work to keep the crew busy as well as ensuring materials and tools are available to perform work.
• Operates vacuum cleaners, heavy duty commercial vacuum cleaners, dry carpet shampooing equipment, floor scrubbing machines, floor buffing equipment, high speed buffing equipment, wet carpet shampooing equipment, mobile street sweeping equipment, escalator cleaners, lifts and high-pressure steam cleaning equipment. Provides daily upkeep/routine maintenance of this equipment.

Work requires frequent standing, bending and stooping. Work occurs in cramped areas. Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 80 pounds, unassisted. Works on ladders, scaffolds and high lifts. Requires weekend hours and shift work. Requires indoor and outdoor performance of duties. Must be able to climb ladders, stay on feet for long periods of time and be able to work from standing, bending, kneeling and awkward positions. The incumbent is exposed to dirt, dust, chemicals, chemical vapors and human secretions.
