The Division of Protocol and Chamber Operations supports protocol and special events, access into the House Chamber and galleries, and access into the Capitol for official business visitors. Chamber Support Services Staff work as part of a team facilitating tour access to the House Gallery and House Floor and assist with administrative and support tasks as needed. Chamber Support Services Staff report to the Deputy Assistant Sergeant at Arms for Chamber Support Services.

Duties Include:

1.Serve as the first point of contact for visitors going to the House Gallery.
2.Operate check stands where prohibited items are collected and secured while customers visit the House Gallery.
3.Escort large groups of visitors going to and from the House Gallery.
4.Control access to the House Floor for staff conducting tours.
5.Enforce decorum rules for House Floor tours.
6.Assist with administrative tasks and organizational support for the division of Protocol and Chamber Operations.
7.Assist with special events as needed.
8.Perform other official duties as assigned.

Work Experience & Education:

Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent work experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Excellent customer service skills; must be tactful and courteous in dealing with Members, staff, and public; ability to work all posts, long hours, and evening hours on a rotating basis; ability to develop a working knowledge of rules and decorum of the House Chamber and House Floor tours; must be physically able to stand for long periods of time, walk up and down stairs, and lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to pass a criminal history records check.

Work Schedule:

Full-time, permanent; 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday; evening hours covering House sessions until adjournment on a rotating basis; weekends as needed covering House sessions.
