U.S. Got People is searching for a dedicated professional to work as a Phlebotomy Technician to work at the Blood Donor Center on Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX.

Education Qualifications:

  • Degree/Education: HCW shall have a high school diploma or equivalent, as well as have completed a phlebotomy course or comparable On-the-Job-Training (OJT).
  • Experience: HCW shall have at least six (6) months experience within the past five (5) years.
  • Licensure/Registration: HCW shall have a Texas phlebotomy license or certification (other states not valid).

Job duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Shall be able to work independently with attention to detail and full knowledge of all aspects of the daily operations without deviating from established procedures. Comply with safety, policies, procedures, and universal precautions in the work area. Complete training and competency checklists within scheduled timeframes. Shall initiate and complete occurrence reports and root cause analysis for errors, accidents, and procedural deviations of which the HCW is involved.
  • Performs all administrative and technical tasks consistent with blood donor center operations for both in-house and mobile drives. These tasks include, but are not limited to, donor registration, physical screening, donor phlebotomy for whole blood into components, and performing critical processes which necessitates a knowledge of standards required by accrediting agencies for Blood Banks and Blood Donor Centers.
  • Perform all tasks in compliance with local operating instructions, AAAHC and/or Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO), Enterprise Blood Management System - Donor (EBMS-D) Technical Guidance documents, Air Force Blood Program Memorandums (AFBPM), Code of Federal Regulations for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), Joint Commission (TJC) and College of American Pathologist (CAP) regulations and policies and all other Federal, State, and local laws.
  • Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic, team focused work unit that actively helps on another to achieve optimal department results.
  • Assist in the unloading, setting up, taking down, and reloading of mobile equipment. Will sit, stand, walk, and bend during working hours. Required to reach, lift, and carry up to 50lbs. Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Occasional out of town and overnight stays required for mobile blood drives.
  • Greets donors and visitors in a clear and professional manner. Explains donor screening and collection procedures to all potential donors and their families. Instruct donors on necessary physical requirements, and post donation information.
  • Collaborates with all team members by actively communicating and reporting pertinent donor information and data in a comprehensive manner.
  • Prepare and label blood collection bags and pilot tubes prior to in-house and mobile blood drives ensuring all materials are unexpired and acceptable for use.
  • Brief and assist donors in the preparation of blood donor record.
  • Documents the donor visit, ensures donors have the correct registration, and documents the processing of blood components according to requirements of regulatory agencies.
  • Perform donor deferral check and enter donor demographics into EBMS-D.
  • Accurately identifies donor/unit for phlebotomy procedures, obtains correct specimens and labels them appropriately.
  • Obtains complete donor history and make corrections before releasing donors.
  • Determines donor eligibility through a comprehensive medical history interview, medical screening procedures to include weight check, manual and automated blood pressure, pulse, temperatures, and hemoglobin and/or hematocrit via finger stick
