The Embryology Laboratory Supervisor plays a key leadership role at Ovation Fertility (“Ovation”) as they are responsible for the oversite of scheduling and day-to-day supervision of personnel performing IVF procedures, testing, and reporting of test results. The laboratory supervisor will work under the Embryology Laboratory Director and Embryology Laboratory Manager and will be responsible for oversight of laboratory staff, training, and QA/QC duties.

This position requires a focus on protocol compliance, maintenance of the highest clinical standards and provision of the services and resources necessary to support laboratory operations. In addition, the laboratory supervisor must perform IVF techniques at an expert level and train embryologist on new techniques and standards. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to explain technical clinical specialty concepts, actively listen, persuade, advise, and counsel.
Interpersonal skills to independently convey information with authority, handle highly sensitive matters and interact with high level contacts from other organizations.

The Laboratory Supervisor must be able to balance time performing administrative duties and performing essential tasks in the laboratory. Proven ability to multi-task and reliably manage multiple projects through from inception to completion on schedule in a complex, challenging environment. Flexibility to adjust to constantly changing priorities.

• Ensure adequate staffing coverage and comprehensive staffing plan for department that complies with budget. Maintain competency in operations and cover for staff as appropriate when workload or staff vacancies require.
• Oversees departmental or office operation, assures smooth daily operation in departmental operations. Responsible for identifying bottlenecks and making suggestions to address them.
• Facilitates external communication with corresponding laboratories regarding use of services or supplies.
• Assist in the management of new employees to ensure training goals are met.
• Oversee and coordinate staff orientation in accordance with established orientation plan.
• Oversees all Embryology & Andrology laboratory procedures and staff training.
• Assure the required certifications and job requirements are current and maintained.
• Develop the proficiency necessary for oversight of technical staff in their use of all Electronic Data Systems (eMedical Records, eQuality Control eSpecimen ID, eDocument Control, etc.)
• Aids in trouble shooting lab issues.
• Attends departmental meetings and implements new processes as necessary to improve performance.
• Reviews with Laboratory Director and IVF Manager day-to-day operations, disciplinary issues, and success rates.
• Consults with embryology & andrology staff and Director about quality control concerns and advises.
• Ensures that all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and policies (including OSHA) are updated and reviewed annually by all Embryologists/Andrologists.
• Works directly with the Director of Risk Management, Laboratory Director, and Laboratory Manager in matters of quality assessment and improvement and takes responsibility for pursuing patient complaints in a customer service orientated fashion. Documents concerns and seek resolutions. Demonstrates effective use of the Incident reporting system to route concerns and opportunities for improvement. Identifies improvement opportunities and participates in resolving problems identified.
• Provides a Safe Environment for Staff and Patients. Monitors physical environment for hazards and follows through to resolve them. Assists Laboratory Manager and Director of Risk management in the annual training of employees in Safety and Disaster plans.
• Assures Compliance with Applicable Regulations, Policies and Standards and serves as lead CAP/CLIA officer for the laboratory. Works closely with Laboratory Director and Director of Risk Management to ensure compliance of Policies and Standards prior to inspections. Monitors compliance with established practice and Corporate SOPs & HIPAA Standards. Understands and monitors compliance with applicable Accreditation Standards. Helps prepare laboratories for compliance inspections. Assists with education about and implementation of new regulations as needed.
• Consults with embryology staff and Lab Director about quality control concerns.
• Incumbent will participate in ongoing continuing education, and will attend one national meeting per year, relevant to human embryology/andrology, as determined by the Director
• Ensuring proficiency testing samples are tested and reviewed by appropriate personnel.
• Attend required staff and laboratory meetings
• Other duties and projects as assigned

What You'll Bring:

• Bachelor or Master’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution
• 5 years previous experience in the field (preferred managerial or supervisory experience)
