Job Summary: If you’ve ever dreamed of working in the medical field but you weren’t sure where to start, we have an opportunity for you! As an ophthalmic assistant at Carolina Eyecare, you will receive hands on training that prepares you for a fulfilling career in ophthalmology. Our team works side by side with renowned ophthalmic surgeons and optometrists, improving our patients’ vision and changing lives. In this role, you will learn the skills required to become an ophthalmic assistant – one of the most sought after type of medical professionals in the country! We will train you to perform complex diagnostic testing and exams, working side by side with our doctors to provide critical medical information that assists them in providing medical and surgical treatment of our patients. Your training will provide a path for advanced, internationally recognized certification in an exciting and growth field!

Essential Job Functions:
  • An Ophthalmic Assistant works with the ophthalmologists and optometrists to provide patient care by performing many different eye-related clinical functions. 
  • Ophthalmic Assistants help care for patients by taking histories, performing various procedures and tests, and preparing patients to see the doctor. 
  • Their work provides the ophthalmologists and optometrists with important information to help diagnose and treat patients.
  • Assist and provide patients with excellent customer service and any necessary information regarding treatment
  • Conduct tonometry tests to measure intraocular pressure
  • Measure visual acuity.
  • Take and document patients' medical histories.
  • Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications.
  • Conduct visual field tests to measure field of vision.
  • Instruct patients in the care and use of contact lenses.

Education and Experience:
  • Experience within a professional environment with a strong customer service focus
  • Previous experience within the medical field (preferred)
  • High School Diploma or GED required, willing to train the right person, experience in optometry or ophthalmology a plus.
Position Type an Expected Hours of Work:
  • This is a full-time position with the home office located in Mt. Pleasant, SC
  • Travel to other locations will be required.
