US Engine Valve is Hiring a Controls Engineer Near Westminster, SC

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
1. Design and specify advanced electrical, mechanical, and computer-controlled systems. Improve manufacturing support and maintenance programs through training and technical support. Develop process specification, machine parameters and develop plan for scrap reduction and uptime improvements. Lead capital projects that integrate PLC, Robotics, HMI that improve cost through improved operational performance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Limit yourself to 8-12 statements)

  1. Design and implement control systems for machine tools, including electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic.
  2. Maintain the electrical and program documentation.
  3. Drive improvements to the current state of PLC, Robotics and HMI that improves safety, reduces costs, and improves operational performance.
  4. Manage the software and hardware required for troubleshooting machine logic programs.
  5. Leads and trains maintenance personnel in the troubleshooting of production equipment and the repair of electronic control equipment.
  6. Selects capital equipment for manufacturing processes.
  7. Improve current machine tools to increase uptime, improve quality and increase productivity.
  8. Provides engineering support to production equipment and processes, including advising maintenance.
  9. Establishes programs for cost savings activities to support overall plant requirements.
  10. Advise in improving preventative maintenance programs.
  11. Authorizes/approves changes to machine tool programs.
  12. Maintain and follow Quality Management System and Environmental Management System requirements.

Record any measurable statistics which your position impacts such as production expenses, maintenance expenses, sales volumes, payroll costs, capital expenditures, research budgets, cost of purchases, value of inventories controlled, employees supervised (direct and indirect).
Capital expenditures: $8 Million per year.
MRO expenditures: $14 Million per year.
Capital Asset Base: $60 Million
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:

Describe any specialized knowledge or skill (e.g., technical, scientific, administrative, managerial) which your position requires.
  • Associate degree in technical field required. Bachelor’s degree in a related field required. Bachelor’s degree in engineering field preferred.
  • Knowledge of programming and designing controls systems utilizing PC’s, PLCs, electrical and pneumatic components.
  • Experience in writing and debugging code for ControlLogix 500, SLC, or Omron, siemens or Fanuc.
  • Experience with CNC or NC controls
  • Experience with induction hardening equipment.
  • HMI program development experience
  • Experience in hardware/panel design, motor sizing, component selection, drive system selection and programming, robotics, and motion control.
  • Experience with automation network interfaces for data and control (Ethernet, DeviceNet, Modbus, Profinet)
  • Experience in machine vision setup and programming preferred.
  • Working knowledge of NEC code
  • AutoCAD experience preferred.
  • Results oriented personality and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in continuous improvement activities will be considered a plus. This includes using tools such as kaizens, mistake proofing, establishing standard work practices, problem solving, pull systems, 5S, setup reduction, TPM, etc.
