US Defense Health Agency is Hiring a Materials Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/Forklift Operator) Near Houston, TX

Duties

  • Perform a variety of warehousing duties that include receiving, processing, researching, storing, issuing, and documenting medical and non-medical supplies/equipment.
  • Assume custodial responsibility for all supplies and equipment stored in the warehouse with special emphasis on computer hardware and software.
  • Ensure the safe receipt, storage and movement of hazardous materials when present.
  • Direct and coordinate inbound/outbound activities to and from the DHA warehouse on Joint Base San Antonio, Texas.
  • Visually inspect all shipments for damage and cross references materiel received to shipping documents and customer requisitions.
  • Operate motor vehicles up to a 5-ton capacity to transport supplies and equipment between the warehouse and user work sites as well as commercial vendors in the surrounding area.
  • Operate electric, gasoline, diesel, or propane powered forklifts capable of lifting loads weighing up to 6,000 pounds, as high as 168 inches.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state motor vehicle driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain forklift operator license to operate a 2000-, 4000-, or 6000-pound forklift and tug required when performing materiel handling duties, within 30 days of entrance on duty.
  • Must be licensed to operate motor vehicles including pick-up trucks, panel and flatbed trucks up to 5-ton capacity and equipped with either manual or automatic transmission.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government driver's license to operate vehicles or material handling equipment.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Heavy lifting up to 40 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/Forklift Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision which includes common warehouse activities, collect, receive, store, select, issue, transport, and ship materials, supplies, and/or equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Performs work on hard surfaces and is required to stand for extended periods of time, andto bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. May lift and carry items that weigh up to 40 pounds, with heavier items being moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is done inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorlylighted, May be exposed to cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock. May beexposed to dust, dirt, grease and solvents and exposure to toxins or chemical fumes. Work may requirewearing protective clothing such as steel toed shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, rubber gloves, or rubberaprons.
