US Air Mobility Command is Hiring a Recreation Assistant (Lead Lifeguard) Near Charleston, SC

Duties

Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons. Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area. Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance if and when needed. Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions, ocean conditions of rough water or hazards, and recommends closing swimming area until safe conditions prevail. When working at pools, may operate water pumps and control chemicals additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards. Ensures that diving boards are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting, and that necessary repairs are made. May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area to include: cleaning of bath houses, wading pools, main pools, pool decks, beach areas, sunbathing areas, etc. Performs other related duties as assigned
Under the supervision of the Outdoor Recreation Manager, supervises the planning, manning, directing and operational oversight of the indoor fitness and outdoor recreational pools. Interviews, tests, hires. reprimands and recommends termination of lifeguard staff. Organizes, promotes and schedules swim lessons, swim meets, special events and daily activities to address differing needs of the base populace. Observes lifeguard/water safety instructors as they execute lesson plans and aids. Reviews work schedules to ensure that the required lifeguards and counter personnel are on duty. Ensures water quality and clarity testing is performed in accordance with Bioenvironmental and Wing Safety standards, reports deficiencies in a timely manner. Inspects pools and equipment to ensure they are operated in a safe and efficient manner and that equipment/facility discrepancies are reported in a timely manner. Assists in establishing policies and procedures for facility, trains and enforces these procedures, keeps lifeguards trained and operated via AF guidelines
Conducts quality assurance checks on maintenance performed on facilities. Instructs lifeguards in specific tasks. procedures,techniques and ensures timely accomplishment of work assignments. Instructs, cautions and/ or expels patrons as appropriate. Resolves difficult problems and/or conducts and reports incident to the Outdoor Recreation Manager. Uses a variety of techniques, i.e., artificial respiration, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid. Notifies emergency medical services (EMS) about injuries.Performs other related duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience:
For pool and aquatic center lifeguards: Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (both child and adult) training. For coastal lifeguards: In addition to the above, must also have surf rescue techniques training.
Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable. Must have two year of progressively responsible experience that demonstrate ability to perform the duties and responsibilities in this position.
Must possess current and valid nationally recognized lifeguard certification covering lifesaving and water rescue methods, skills and procedures. All certifications must remain current during the period of employment. Knowledge of swimming facility rules, work procedures, equipment and materials to perform standing and recurring tasks is needed.
Physical exertion is required in effecting a swimming rescue, must be able to lift and carry 45 lbs. and over. Aquatic Facility Operator or Certified Pool Operator certification is desirable, but not necessary. Ability to safeguard and handle cash, cash register experience preferred but not necessary. Successful completion of National Agency Check required.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
