US Agricultural Research Service is Hiring a MICROBIOLOGIST (RESEARCH ASSOCIATE) Near Stuttgart, AR

Duties

  • Responsible for performing a wide range of routine and specialized immunological, microbiological, and molecular test procedures with minimal on-site supervision.
  • Provide and direct the modification of existing methods or the development of new techniques to improve accuracy, efficiency, or sensitivity; or to overcome difficulties in dealing with specific systems or microorganisms.
  • Learn propagation bacteriophages and evaluate their in vivo therapeutic potential.
  • Learn vaccine evaluation techniques such as injection routes, blood collection, Western blotting, and ELISAs.
  • Learn recombinant endolysin expression and evaluate their in vivo therapeutic potential.

Qualifications

This position requires a Ph.D in Microbiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Applicants must meet basic Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standard's requirements of the scientific discipline necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Microbiology (0403): Degree: microbiology; or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent.

OR

Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

This position has a positive education requirement.
