URI is Hiring a Director of Homeless Programs, Sanctuary Hotels - NYC Near New York, NY

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director will be responsible for working with team members and program leaders to develop and implement a vision for Urban Resource Institute’s programs, ensuring quality and effective services to Families with Children commercial hotels for migrant families that reflect best practices in the field. Maintain constructive collaborative relationships with partner agencies in the public and private sectors as well as funding sources and service providers.

Salary: $79,000 - $100,000

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for implementing homeless programs in NYC and maintaining general oversight.
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations as well as agency and program policies.
  • Develop as needed, implement, and maintain consistent policies and practices regarding program management, client services, and other agency protocols.
  • Ensure entry into DHS Cares and HERO system.
  • Maximize bed utilization and achieve optimal occupancy rates.
  • Work with the Senior Director and Vice President of Homeless Families Residential Services, other Senior Team members, and program leaders to ensure consistency, collaboration, and complementary services between sites and programs.
  • Work with program leaders and evaluation staff to build and develop services that represent the best practices in working with homeless families. 
  • Provide leadership in the development of strong intra- and inter-agency collaborations to improve the systemic response to homeless families.
  • Represent URI at city and statewide coalitions, task forces, and committees to ensure the continuation of solid collaborative approaches.
  • Play a leadership role in the achievement of organizational missions and strategic plans.
  • Assist in the creation and monitoring annual homeless services program budget. 
  • Ensure facilities are maintained at the highest level and facilitate collaboration between facilities and operations staff.
  • Hire, train, and supervise staff as needed.
  • Ensure that staff receives ongoing training in assessing risks and needs, identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect, effective case management strategies, and evidence-based/evidence-informed approaches, such as motivational interviewing.
  • Provide weekly supervision to assigned staff and ensure the provision of regular supervision of all other program staff.
  • Keep the supervisor informed of issues that may impact program operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director or designee.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

  • Master’s degree in social work, human services, or related field.
  • LCSW/LMSW

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Passion for URI’s mission, vision, and core values with the ability to communicate this passion to others.
  • A minimum of five years of supervisory experience in a social service capacity, preferably in homeless services.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in the language(s) spoken by URI’s clients is desired, preferably Spanish, or Russian.
  • Familiarity with DHS and OTDA regulations.
  • Project management skills and experience, especially in projects requiring significant resources and cross-functional involvement.
  • Strong interpersonal and flexible communications skills and the ability to develop positive and productive relationships with a diverse team.
  • Proficiency in trauma-informed care, client-centered practices, and cultural humility
  • Commitment to person-centered, recovery-focused, and trauma-informed service strategies, upholding residents’ rights and self-determination in service provision to families.
  • Strong commitment to equity and social justice, including a focus on self-awareness and engagement of continuous learning around issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion; high level of Emotional Intelligence (EQ).
  •  Demonstrated sensitivity and knowledge of the dynamics of homelessness and violence for communities of color and disenfranchised communities, including individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and/or HIV-affected, older adults, and individuals impacted by mental health.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Applications and use of platform used for record keeping.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and fiscal management principles.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • May require prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
  • Must lift 10 pounds at times, occasionally reach and bend.
  • May require occasional work outside established working hours, including evenings and weekends.
