TITLE: UMS Summer Academy Teacher

LOCATIONS: Urbana Middle School

SUPERVISOR: This position reports directly to the Program Coordinator and building administration.

JOB SUMMARY: The Summer Academy Teacher is responsible for establishing a developmentally appropriate summer learning environment. The mission of the program during the morning is to assist students in catching up on academics potentially missed during the school year. The afternoon mission is more focused on enrichment and recreation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

• Prepare lesson plans and implement them to provide a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that assists students assigned to the classroom with achieving specific educational goals.
• Create a classroom environment that is welcoming to all students and supports the school's mission statement.
• Supervise and collaborate with support staff assigned to the classroom to develop general classroom procedures, goals, schedules, behavior expectations, and classroom activities for students.
• Plan and implement activities inside and outside of the classroom that expose a child to a variety of experiences to broaden a child’s perspective, such as field trips, cooking activities, and experiments. 
• Review, develop, and requisition materials for the classroom. 
• Meet all requirements for classroom teachers as outlined by the program coordinator and UMS building administration.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE 

• Internal applicants only

LICENSES/CREDENTIALS:

• Valid Illinois Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement preferred
• or
• Valid Substitute License

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to communicate and work effectively on a collaborative team
• Ability to effectively work with students.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Planning and meeting time is expected prior to the start of the program.
• Program starts June 10, 2024

NOTE:

• This position is not part of the collective bargaining unit and is not an administrative position.
