About The Role: 
Urban Sky manufactures stratospheric balloons and unique high altitude payload systems almost entirely at our facility in Denver, CO. The company is in a period of rapid growth, and over the next year we plan to substantially increase the rate at which we manufacture our balloon systems. We are looking for an automation engineer with an interest in machine design and machine controls to help implement and maintain several automation systems and new balloon manufacturing stations.

Working in this role at Urban Sky offers unparalleled autonomy and ownership. As the company grows quickly, the candidate will have a unique opportunity to shape the hardware that becomes the foundation of future manufacturing equipment and processes. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Design, prototype, build and support unique large manufacturing equipment for building high altitude balloons 

• Work with machine integrators to specify and develop the PLC control programing and HMIs for various automated production processes 

• Generate and maintain detailed 3D CAD of manufacturing equipment 

• Work with software team to collect manufacturing data (SCADA) and integrate the data into company ERP system 

• Collaborate with Electrical Engineers for mechanical - electrical integrations 

• Collaborate with manufacturing technicians to document and improve equipment 

• Operate independently towards project-level goals without day-to-day direction 

Requirements:

• 2 years of automation experience 

• Proficient with a mechanical CAD software such as Solidworks or Onshape 

• Must be US Citizen

• Must be located in or willing to relocate to Denver, CO 

Nice-to-Haves: 

• Start-up experience 

• Experience manufacturing soft goods 

• Fabrication experience in a shop environment

Benefits: 
Salary $80,000 - $120,000 per year 

We are required to post this salary range per Colorado law. Your salary will be determined based on your abilities and experience.
