Urban Recovery House is Hiring a Weekend Phlebotomist Near Brooklyn, NY

The Phlebotomist is responsible for identifying the best method for retrieving specimens, preparing specimens for laboratory testing, and performing screening procedures for all patients entering either the 818 or 816 inpatient treatment programs, and providing the onsite medical staff with updates on lab results.

This role is part time on Saturday and Sundays from 9:00am until 5:00pm

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Collect blood samples from all incoming inpatient clients.
• Conduct waived testing for urine and blood work.
• Complete vital-signs and urine toxicology for incoming clients and upload information/results to
their electronic medical record (EMR), KIPU.
• Upload all labs into each client’s medical record for all urine and blood work results.
• Assure the filing of essential clinical/medical/labs documentation are uploaded to KIPU in a timely
manner.
• Inform medical staff of lab test results.
• Enter new patients to KIPU, ChemPlus, Quest, etc. as needed.
• Train and orient new phlebotomy staff with EMR system.
• Practice proper patient identification, label vials with patient names and dates.
• Decipher the best method for drawing blood depending on the specific patient.
• Practice infection control standards at all times when working with patients and equipment.
• Dispose of contaminated sharps, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies.
• Gather all sharps and place in allocated area the day before for pick-up by disposal company.
• Document route of specimens from collection to laboratory analysis.
• Keep your phlebotomy station well-organized at all times.
• Adhere to NY Health Department regulations.
• Comply with HIPPA law and requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Current phlebotomy certification
• Minimum of two (2) years of related experience

SKILLS:
• Great interpersonal skills
• Attention to detail

• Excellent communication skills

• Knowledge of laboratory computer

• Familiarity with electronic medical records

• Ability to work calmly under pressure
• Time-management and multitasking skills
