Urban League of Louisiana is Hiring a Business Developer Near Baton Rouge, LA

Position Title: Business Developer

Reports To: Vice President of Workforce Development

Organization Overview

Founded in 1938 as the Urban League of Greater New Orleans, Inc., the organization expanded its footprint to Baton Rouge and changed its name to Urban League of Louisiana (ULLA) in 2017. ULLA is one of nearly 100 affiliates of the National Urban League, headquartered in New York. Today, ULLA’s work lives in three Centers of Excellence: Education and Youth Development, Economic Development and Workforce Development and Policy and Social Justice.

The organization’s structure includes the President and CEO, Executive Vice President, Vice President for Finance and Operations, Vice President for Education and Youth Development and
Vice President for Workforce Development, along with director level positions in New Orleans and
Baton Rouge.

Position Summary

The Urban League of Louisiana provides through its Center for Workforce Development comprehensive job skills training that prepares unemployed and underemployed youth and adults for success in the workforce. The Business Services Developer’s role is to identify barriers to employment for program participants, Match program participants to industry based on interest, aptitude, and possess the required skills needed to fill vacant positions. In addition, the Business Developer will work with ULLA’s workforce team to help identify barriers of enrolled participants, which prevents them from being successful in the workplace. The Business Developer will also assist career readiness and tech trainer during the time of professional development training. The role will also assist with the development of Individual Employment and Career Plans.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Collect and catalog business resources and service information in order to make appropriate referrals.
  • Collect all supporting documents (time sheets, attendance logs, etc.) for program participants who are engaged in on-the-job training, work experience, internships and/or direct employment placements, etc.
  • Assist in the development and implement methods to obtain customer information (surveys, committees, focus groups, etc.) to identify and document local customer needs.
  • Track and organize job vacancies to qualified participants referred from case management team and other community partners.
  • Maintain continuous contact and working relationships with the business community in assigned area, conducting activities to forge a professional rapport, and become an integral, well-known part of the business community.
  • Assist in the development and distribution of up-to-date informational and promotional materials and tools.
  • Keep up with workforce trends and training necessary for participants to prepare for employment in high wage jobs.
  • Perform data entry on all career seekers and others visiting the Urban League’s workforce center, which includes data entry of all intake applications, assessments, daily attendance, case notes, file labeling, etc.
  • Conduct ongoing program recruitment and outreach, program orientation, and intake assessments on all career seekers to determine eligibility and suitability for workforce services.
  • Conduct a range of individual needs assessments including housing, nutrition, education level, job skills, income, employment, eligibility for Independent Living Program services, involvement with the justice system, etc.
  • Track program participants as they matriculate through the program to ensure that they are meeting required milestones, document hiring outcomes on program participants, and review and modify education and career plans as needed.
  • Timely input of case notes and maintenance of electronic case files in Urban League’s internal data management system and as needed in a funders data management system.
  • Audit files to ensure that participant records contain all necessary documentation to track employment related assistance.
  • Produce reports on participant activities, progress, and outcomes as requested by senior staff.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years of training and public speaking experience
  • 3 or more years working in non-profit organization, management, workforce development,
  • 3 or more years of fostering, engaging, and maintaining relationships with employers, community social service providers, education providers, and other stakeholders cooperatively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to maintain program and agency confidentiality and treat everyone with dignity and respect.
  • Ability to set and observe appropriate personal limits and boundaries.

Knowledge, Skills, and Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or Business-related degree is required; graduate degree preferred.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation, a valid driver's license with a clean driving record and verification of appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Must be knowledgeable of labor market trends.
  • Experience, knowledge, and empathy working with a diverse range of at-risk youth, justice-involved, individuals, returning citizens, young adults, adults, etc., including those with barriers to employment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must be able to work in the following settings: pre-trial service programs, probation offices, prisons (federal, state & local), pre-release facilities, parole offices, one-stop career centers, non-profit organizations, faith-based organizations, community colleges, offices of vocational rehabilitation, incarcerated veterans’ transition and employment and training services, homeless veteran’s programs.
  • Must be able to organize materials and schedule time efficiently.
  • Must be able to plan and conduct workshops and training sessions.
  • Must be able to use various computer program applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Outlook, and PowerPoint) Zoom, and Salesforce.
  • Must be able to work as a team member and independently.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot problems on the spot.

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
