ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Communications & Development Manager for Major Grants will lead the effort to secure larger, multi-year grants that support the work of Urban Dove. The Manager will research, write and manage grants from public agencies and private foundations, focusing on larger, multi-year opportunities. The Manager will be well versed in compliance requirements and management of public agency grants, such as 21st Century Learning Communities, New York State Education Department, and NYC Department of Youth & Community Development. The Manager will report to the Executive Director.

The successful candidate will bring a knowledge of Federal, State and Local educational and community-based programs, a track record of securing public funds for similar organization(s), and a passion for this work and the work of Urban Dove. The Manager must be able to communicate and work effectively with colleagues on all levels of our organization and have excellent writing skills. 

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION: 

Urban Dove Team Charter School (UD Team) is a completely unique and innovative network of alternative sports-based high schools for over-aged, under-credited youth. Our schools combine a rigorous academic curriculum with a hands-on, real-world vocational program, and an award-winning college and career readiness program that strives to give each graduate a high school diploma, a foundation for higher education, and the job skills needed to enter the world of work. 

Requirements

Researching Government, Public and Private Funding Opportunities – Research and identify new government and public funding prospects to match Urban Dove priorities, specifically in the fields of Education and Youth Development. Private foundations that provide six figure grants will also fall into the job responsibilities.

• Grant Writing – Generate high-quality proposals, narratives, applications, and supporting documents in response to solicitations consistent with both Urban Dove policies and procedures, and the requirements and guidelines of the funding agencies. Create budgets, templates and collateral materials as needed.
• Tracking & Scheduling – Maintain primary responsibility for grant schedules, tracking grants submitted, and prospective grant opportunities. Coordinate and follow up on the progress of submitted proposals 
• Liaison – Serve as a liaison to all funding agencies and organizations 
• Communication – Meet regularly with colleagues to assess current and new funding needs for all parts of Urban Dove
• Management & Leadership – supervise the Grant Writing Associate in the Development & Communications team 
• Other Tasks in the Development/Communications area – as needed and assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

• A proven record of securing larger public grants with certifiable references
• Previous grant budget development and management, knowledge of funding cycles 
• Motivated self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively and independently with purpose and accuracy in a fast-paced environment 
• Exceptional writing skills
• Effective communication skills 
• Ability to think creatively and strategically
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines
• High level of professionalism

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree, advanced degree preferred
