The Division of General Internal Medicine- Birmingham Free Clinic is hiring a Part Time Professional Staff Nurse, OP to join their team! This is a program for Health Care to Underserved Population’s Birmingham Clinic; PARKING INCLUDED.
Schedule/Hours:
· Two Monday evenings per month (1:00pm – 9pm)
· Thursdays (8:30am-5pm)
· Every other Saturday (8:30am – 1:00pm)
Sign On Bonus may be available.
Purpose:
The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse is a member of the care delivery team. The Professional Staff Nurse is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The Professional Staff Nurse has responsibility, authority and accountability for the provision of nursing care. The Professional Staff Nurse manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members. The Professional Staff Nurse establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The Professional Staff Nurse demonstrates a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession.
Responsibilities:
Position-specific Responsibilities:
· Position is located at the Birmingham Free Clinic on the UPMC Mercy campus: Mercy Community Health Building, 1515 Locust Street, Pgh, PA 15219
· Birmingham is the longest-operating free clinic in Western Pennsylvania and our mission is to provide compassionate, integrated, and interdisciplinary care to medically vulnerable and uninsured patients.
· The position is 20 hours per week which will include some Monday evenings, and alternating Saturday mornings.
· Coordinate and oversee workflow of clinic sessions with core clinic staff as well as volunteer health professional students, physicians, and pharmacists.
· Mentor and coordinate volunteer and curriculum-placed health professional students from the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dental, Nursing, and Rehabilitation Sciences, etc.
· Perform CLIA-waived, on-site diagnostic tests (A1C, Pregnancy, Urinalysis); immunizations and PPD placement; EKG, IM injections, and enter test results in the electronic medical record.
· Review lab results and establish a plan for addressing abnormal results with the Birmingham Medical Directors.
· Conduct pre-visit and inter-visit planning for patients.
· Assist FTE Nurse in triaging patient referrals and inquiries.
· Assess health maintenance status of patients and order tests, immunizations, etc. to fulfill HM goals.
· Collaborate closely with supervisor, the Clinical Director, and the Birmingham Medical Directors to achieve patient and clinic goals and quality improvement. Join an interdisciplinary team of professionals dedicated to care of the underserved.
· Coordinate specialty clinic session schedules with key providers.
· Provide pre-visit and between visit care and planning to improve follow-up rate and patient outcomes.
