UPMC is Hiring a Peer Specialist I-Center of Excellence (Part-time) Near Pittsburgh, PA

UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospitals Center of Excellence (COE) provides services to those who have opioid use problems and need access to related treatments and services. The vision of COE is ensuring effective care coordination, whether it be integrating physical and behavioral health services and/or increasing access to medication assisted therapy (MAT).

Our team is constructed of 2 administrative staff, 5 outpatient care coordinators, 6 peer navigators, 4 clinicians, 1 program manager, and 1 clinical/peer supervisor. The ideal candidate for this position would be someone who can work both independently as well as a part of remote team. Those with prior experience with mental health record systems or with previous work experience in a harm reduction, person centered approach strongly preferred. Flexibility required as well as the desire to seek further education in this field. 

This position is based at the Oxford building in the Oakland neighborhood. This is a part-time position, (2) ten-hour shifts scheduled M-F. The hire for this position must have a minimum of two years of sobriety. The dress code is business casual and various parking lease options available.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide feedback as appropriate to client, family members, and clinical staff Assist clients/patients in recovery management including identifying recovery goals, barriers to achieving goals, and strategies to meeting goals. Assist clients/patients in identifying natural supports and resources in the community and educate individuals on how to utilize them in the recovery process .Advocate for clients/patients by actively participating in staff meetings, treatment team meetings, etc. and appropriately voicing the clients'/patients' viewpoint and recovery goals while maintaining alignment with the team. Accompany clients/patients to various community engagement and reintegration activities as appropriate; provide follow-up services to clients/patients in a 1:1 or group setting, by phone, virtually, or by mobile visits; facilitate recovery and wellness related groups; provide individual supportMonitor progress with completing goals and provide feedback as appropriate to clients'/patients', family members, and clinical staff. Utilize crisis support to help individuals develop and use action plans for prevention and recovery, wellness recovery action plans, mental health advanced directives, and other crisis and crisis prevention plans Maintain all required paperwork and documentation in a timely manner, as directed by Supervisor.
