UPMC is Hiring a Graduate Nurse Neuro to ICU Transitional Program (UPMC Shadyside) Near Pittsburgh, PA

This position is eligible for a generous sign-on bonus!

Sign-On Bonus Details:

  • A $10,000 sign-on bonus is available for candidates with less than 1 year of RN experience.

Do you have a career goal to become a skilled and confident ICU nurse? UPMC Shadyside, a 3x Magnet-designated hospital, is currently hiring Full-time Registered Nurses to join our Neuro-Oncology/Neuro-Surgery unit (7 West) and Neuroscience ICU.

This transitional program is a fast track to the ICU and is designed to equip you with the skills that you need to become a successful ICU nurse. You will begin your nursing career on 7 West, and then transition to our NSICU. In this time, it is our goal to help build the foundation, knowledge, and skill sets required when caring for the diverse and high-acuity patient population.

About the Units:

7 West – Neuro-Oncology/Neuro-Surgery: 7 West is a 24-bed newly renovated Neuro-Oncology/Neuro-Surgery unit that cares for postoperative craniotomies and spinal surgeries related to tumor debulking, stroke patients, and acute/chronic neurological conditions. This unit also has a diverse population of oncology patients and some medical patients. 7 West is a high-performing unit that focuses on patient-centered care.

Neuroscience ICU – NSICU:  The Neuroscience ICU (NSICU) is a 9-bed ICU that specializes in care for neuro-oncology, neuro-surgical, stroke, and seizure patients. Our patients are typically post-op for procedures such as craniotomies, spinal surgeries, and tumor de-bulkings. We also receive overflow medical patients from other ICUs and the Emergency Department. Nurses in the NSICU are part of the Rapid Response Team and the Nurse Driven Stroke Assessment Team at UPMC Shadyside.

Among patient care, nurses within both units will have the opportunity to participate in hospital-based councils and committees, as well as continued unit development and quality projects. 7 West and the NSICU strongly encourage nursing staff to continue their education through academia, services, and conferences. These are team-oriented units supported by the same Unit Director with supportive staff, leaders, and Neurosurgeons.

Transitioning to the ICU is contingent upon the employee’s performance during the first year of hire. They must obtain a Solid/Strong/Good performance rating, lack any disciplinary action, and meet all requirements/expectations of their hiring unit.
